Alumnus adds unrestricted endowment gift to annual scholarships

Alex Gregory, ’78 and ’79, just keeps on giving. An annual scholarship donor for the past nine years, Gregory has added an unrestricted endowment donation to the Georgia College & State University Foundation as part of its “Pillars for the Future: Campaign to Sustain Excellence.”

Nursing students benefit from scholarship donation

A long-time member of the Georgia College Foundation Board of Trustees has donated funds to endow the Dr. Samual and Mrs. Ellen S. Goodrich Scholarship for nursing.

Textbook Example: Professor turns personal success into generous spirit

“When you invest in students,” said Dr. Ken Saladin, professor of biological and environmental science, “especially our top notch students, you’re helping someone who will give back in a similar fashion in their own careers. So, I think the investment becomes magnified in that way.”

Couple establishes the Wilson Presidential Scholarship

Stan and Debi Wilson credit Georgia College for their success in the classroom and in life. Their $100,000 donation will create an endowment, which annually will provide scholarship support for incoming Georgia College students.

Donation to support English department activities

Milledgeville Realtor Lynda S. Banks has established the William Wright Banks Sr. Endowment for English at Georgia College in honor of her late husband. Both attended Georgia College.

Donation to assist history, English majors

Thomas “Tad” W. Brown Jr., chair of the Georgia College Foundation Board of Trustees, and has wife Mary Kay Brown, have established an endowed scholarship for students majoring in English and/or history at Georgia College.

Students to benefit from Burgess Scholarship

Malcolm S. Burgess Jr., President and Chairman of the Board of the Burgess Pigment Company, has established an endowed scholarship for Georgia College students, supporting a university priority set by President Dorothy Leland.

Changes at Georgia College bring $1 million donation

The change at Georgia College & State University from a regional public college to the state’s designated public liberal arts university caught the attention of Georgia College alumna Martha Daniel Newell and prompted her gift of $1 million to the university.

Alumni bequeths $735,000 to Georgia College

Georgia College received a gift of $735,000, a bequest given by alumna Miss Emily Myrtice Lynch (1909-2007). A woman who exemplified the ideals of life-long learning, this generous bequest will endow a scholarship that bears her name. This ensures that she will be remembered for future generations and that students will continue to learn on her behalf.

Julie Massey Jenkins, '85, decided to give a charitable estate gift to Georgia College because of the well-rounded education she received.

The gift of a lifetime

She established the Jane Haddock Endowed Scholarship in 1988 in honor of her 50th reunion year. This scholarship awards full tuition to a Georgia College student who shows promise as a scholar. She wanted it to be something that would be valuable to the recipients. Miss Jane has managed to meet all her scholarship recipients except one.

Family establishes scholarship

The family of Herman Hall, including three daughters who earned degrees at Georgia College, has established a scholarship in his name to benefit future Georgia College students with financial needs. The $50,000 gift pledge to the foundation for the Herman Hall Endowed Scholarship fund recognizes the Hall family’s lifelong commitment to the belief that higher education opens the door to opportunity.

Professor provides far-sighted gift

A father’s love for astronomy prompted Dr. Doug Pohl, professor of chemistry, to donate funds to enable Georgia College to buy a telescope for its new observatory atop the expanded Herty Hall.

You can make a gift by telephone using your American Express, MasterCard, Visa or Discover card by calling 478-445-5400 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Pledges
Gifts may be pledged for a one-time payment or multiple payments over a designated period of time. We will send you pledge reminders periodically during the fiscal year.

Payroll Deduction for Georgia College Employees
Georgia College employees may choose to contribute to the GCSU Foundation by filling out a payroll deduction form. The Foundation can draw pre-tax payments from employees monthly or bi-monthly salary at any level determined by the donor.

Corporate Matching Gifts
Double -- or even triple -- your gift to Georgia College. Many companies will match dollar-for-dollar, and in some cases double or triple, charitable gifts made by their employees. The process for submitting a matching gift request differs from company to company. Contact your company's human resources officer or check its web site to find out your options.

Your employer may match the gift you make to Georgia College.

Gifts of Stock/Securities
By making a gift of appreciated securities, you can receive an income-tax charitable deduction for the full market value of the appreciated securities if they have been held for at least one year (or for your cost basis if they have been held for less than one year), and you can avoid capital gains tax on the transfer.
