CatMail Tips

How to block spammers

spacer If you find that particular spam senders are making it past Microsoft's Junk Mail filter, you can block these individuals yourself.  To add someone to your Blocked Senders List:

  1. Open the offending message
  2. Go to the Actions menu
  3. Choose Junk Mail:Add Sender to Blocked Senders List

You can do this for annoying friends as well as spammers. Once you block someone, their messages will end up in your Junk Mail folder unless you go to Options:Junk Mail:Manage Blocked Senders List and un-block them.  Also, be aware that spammers often use multiple "from" addresses.  Blocking one won't necessarily stop all messages from that person or company.

Outlook 2007, Auto-discover, and CatMail

spacer December 15, 2009 - If you use Outlook 2007 to access CatMail, OIT will be making a change in the next few days that could trigger a security dialog when you first start Outlook 2007.  To get rid of this dialog, first make sure that the site in the dialog box is:

https://autodiscover.ohio.edu/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Then check "Don't ask me about this website again" and click "Allow."

New look and new features on the way!

Starting in December 2009, Microsoft will be adding several new features to CatMail, including conversation-based inbox threading, the ability to turn the preview pane on and off, shared calendar access, and support for additional broswers like Firefox, Chrome and Safari.  Microsoft will be upgrading existing accounts gradually over the next month or two.  You'll be able to tell when your account has been upgraded when you see some additional menu choices at the top of the main CatMail page.
