Pastor Nick BalesAge: 24 New Beginnings Christian Center

Coming to 220i, I expected to "grow more as a Christian." Little did I know that God had greater plans than I could imagine. God redefined my relationship with Him while I was an intern. I thought God would be taking me further down the same road I had been on, when in reality, He was getting ready to take me off the road I had been on for so long and take me somewhere completely new.

What is 220i?

220i is a two-semester, ten-month internship program. Our interns will have the opportunity to minister to thousands of young people both locally in area schools and communities, as well as abroad through our mission's trips to Haiti, Venezuela, Mexico, the Philippines, and other nations. Each week, our interns flood the schools with the gospel, ministering the Word of God to hungry students all over the greater Baton Rouge area. If not in a classroom ministering, interns are sent out to area communities where outreaches, evangelism, and mentoring take place.

Interns also have hands-on training from some of the finest men and women of God available. Pastoral ministry, discipleship, prayer, and evangelism are the main subjects that are taught here at 220i. Pastor Joel Stockstill and the 220 Youth staff regularly teach the interns, who receive a great deal of impartation from these great men and women of God. Interns also have the privilege of being ministered to by incredible guest speakers.

Through powerful teaching and intense training of spirit, mind, and body, the graduating interns will be launched into a realm of ministry they never thought possible. It's about the cross and abandoning yourself to the Lord. It's about reaching the world and living the Father's vision. It's surrendering to God's authority and removing the limits. It's conquering those things that you always thought were impossible and becoming an excellent leader who will change the world!

IMPARTATION
220i rests upon the foundation of Bethany World Prayer Center and is guided by the spiritual fathers of this ministry. One of the opportunities and goals of your time here as an intern, will be for you to receive the spirit of Bethany. As an intern, you will have classes with Pastor Joel Stockstill as well as Pastor Larry Stockstill, Pastor Jonathan Stockstill, and the 220 Youth staff. We not only want you to learn practical skills, but we also want you to receive a spiritual impartation that will give you a foundation for future ministry.

DISCIPLESHIP
As a 220 intern, you will be part of the largest youth group in America. 220 reaches young people between the ages of 11—25 through the exciting ministries of Club220, 220U, 220SU, and Life Groups that meet throughout the Baton Rouge area. We provide the ministries that make it possible for every young person to find purpose and receive the direction that is necessary for seeing change in this generation.

Every 220 intern is placed under one of our seasoned 220 leaders for personal mentorship and discipleship. These leaders work one-on-one with you to make sure the purpose and plan of God is being fulfilled in your life. You will also be mentoring your own group of youth. You will learn the basics of discipleship, not just through class teachings, but also practically through school clubs, outreaches, and home cell groups.

HARVEST
As believers, we are commanded to go into all of the world and preach the gospel, and as we obey, God will back us up with His power. From the streets, to the malls, to university campuses, interns preach the gospel and heal the sick all over Baton Rouge. There are even opportunities to minister overseas where the saving and healing power of God is demonstrated.

220i Frequently Asked Questions

When does the fall internship begin? What does the tuition cover?
The fall internship begins September 2012. The tuition covers living expenses (dorm and utilities), 220i gear, and the total or partial cost of one mission trip (depending on the location of trip chosen by the intern and their family. Some trips are more expensive than others and may require additional costs.)

Where do the interns live?
Female interns live in houses located on the property of Bethany's north campus in Baker, Louisiana. The males live in a dorm about one mile from the church in Baker, Louisiana.

Who do the interns live with?
Interns live with other interns. There is also a house mom assigned to each house for the girls and house dads assigned to the guys' dorm. There are at least four interns per room, especially in male housing, but the number of roommates depends on the size of the room.

What is the average additional living expense?
You should plan for at least $300 a month. Additional living expenses depend on the person's choice to either buy groceries or eat out for every meal, as well as the need for gas money (whether they drive or must provide it to those they ride with regularly).

Is there an accredited degree attached to the program?
We are now an affiliate of the Vision International Education Network.

Interns will receive credit for four Vision University courses during their ten-month internship program, assuming that they successfully complete all coursework material with passing grades.

These credits can be used to continue their studies through Vision University.

We will also offer a two-year option for those interns who would like to complete an associate's degree in ministry. Application for this degree occurs after completion of the first trimester of the internship (in December).

The total price for the ministry track leading to an associate's degree, is $5,500 ($600 more than the original price).

What are some of the things the participants do once they complete the program?
Much of what the interns do after graduation depends upon their personal goals and/or the plans of the pastor and church that sent them to 220i. Some of our alumni become youth pastors, while others begin or complete college and/or work in the secular arena while continuing to minister in their home churches.

If a participant leaves the program early, is the cost prorated?
The participant will be charged only for the months enrolled in 220i. If the tuition was paid in full upon registration, the remaining months' tuition will be refunded. If the tuition was being paid monthly, tuition for the remaining months of the internship will not have to be paid.

Is a car needed? If interns do not have a car, will it hinder their progress?
Having a car is optional. However, those interns who do have cars will definitely find things easier. Interns are given various assignments. Some assignments within the church may encompass travel to and from one of our campuses several times within the week. Additionally, interns are assigned to several area high-school and junior-high 220 clubs (Bible Clubs) that require travel all over the city during the week. Interns without personal transportation often ride with other interns with the same assignments. Also, many interns desire employment so they can earn extra spending money. If they find jobs away from the church (most are in Baton Rouge, about 25 minutes away) but do not have personal transportation, they may find it difficult to regularly find a ride to and from work.

Not having a car does not hinder an intern's progress. However, as time passes, some interns decide they don't want to keep bothering the same people for rides, although offering gas money always makes for a happy and willing driver!

Is there a placement program (job or something with earning potential) once interns complete the program?
There is not currently a job-placement program. We are in constant contact with the interns and begin exit interviews with them at the end of the term to discuss their plans for the future (college, careers, etc).

What is the daily expectation concerning the Word?
Daily reading plans are given each month to all interns. Devotional time (Bible reading and prayer) is incorporated into the daily schedule of each intern at the beginning of each class day.

How is the program structured?
Interns have class Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Class topics include prayer, pastoring, evangelism, church administration/church growth, leadership, character/loyalty, and weekly guy- and girl-specific courses. Monday is not a class day. This helps those who would like to have jobs, do additional ministry, or study for the upcoming week.

All interns are assigned weekly junior-high and high-school Bible Clubs in which they receive hands-on experience in evangelism and discipleship through mentoring their own set of young people. These clubs meet both in the early morning (prior to class time) and during lunch time. Many interns are given assignments during the week to assist in church events that may be exclusively for that one week, with other assignments given as the months go by. Many also have permanent weekend assignments for each church service.

Mission trips are also incorporated into the term here at 220i. These trips are spread throughout the year, and interns and their families select the one they will attend (as some may have additional fees). Interns are also given holiday breaks (Thanksgiving, about one week; Christmas, about 2 weeks) during which they may return home and visit with their families.
