Ship of Fools respects your right to privacy in respect to the personal information you provide us on this website. Unless otherwise stated in this policy or at the time information is collected, all personal information you provide to Ship of Fools will be known only to us.

Please read the following policy, which explains how your personal information will be treated as you make use of this site. Personal information includes, but is not limited to, your name, street and email addresses, billing information and any other personal information you may provide here. This policy is subject to change, so please check back periodically.

Use of cookies – We use cookies in the community areas of Ship of Fools for two reasons. The use of cookies for the bulletin board makes it easy for you to post messages. If your browser is set to accept cookies, it means that our software "recognises" you when you arrive on the board and doesn't have to ask you to verify your username or password. If your browser is set to reject cookies, you will have to give your information every single time you post – which would be a pain for you. The use of cookies in our Snap Vote feature helps us to allow only one vote per person. If you are not sure about how your browser is set, the chances are that it is accepting cookies, because this is the default setting. To check, go to your browser's "preferences" menu item. In there, you should find a section on cookies. Simply select the "accept all cookies" option, and if you don't want to be warned every time the browser is asked to accept a cookie, make sure the box is unchecked.

"Email this page to a friend" feature – The Ship of Fools bulletin boards offer an "email this page to a friend" feature, allowing site visitors to send email to friends to inform them about a discussion they might be interested in reading. This feature requires an email address for the recipient and from the sender. This information is not stored or saved and you will not receive email or other communications from Ship of Fools as a result of having used this feature. "Email this page to a friend" is a mail service that visitors to the Ship of Fools bulletin board may make use of to send individual emails. While this tool cannot be used to send spam mailings, Ship of Fools has no control over how our visitors use it, and any email sent through it originates with, and is the responsibility of, the sender, not Ship of Fools.

Bulletin board registration – Those who register for the Ship of Fools bulletin boards are required to provide us with a username, password and working email address. We use this information to set up your account. We do not sell or redistribute this membership list. Occasionally the administrators will send you email at the address you provide, either to send announcements relating to the boards or to resolve issues that may arise with your use of the bulletin board. The email address is displayed in your member profile, but you may elect to hide this from public view or change your email address at any time. Bulletin board participants are expected to comply with the rules governing the area, but we cannot control third parties' use of information you voluntarily provide in a public forum.

Bulletin board posting – Ship of Fools offers posters the ability to post on our boards. Views or opinions expressed in a post are those of individual posters and are not to be read as the views or opinions of Ship of Fools.

Newsletter – Ship of Fools publishes a site newsletter, to which visitors may elect to subscribe or unsubscribe at any time. The information gathered is not released by us to anyone else, except as provided for below.

The Mystery Worshipper – Our Mystery Worshipper feature solicits reports from our readers. By submitting an application you agree to join our newsletter mailing list. Additionally, we may email you with announcements related to this feature. As with the newsletter, the information you supply will not be shared with anyone else, except as provided for below.

Promotions – From time to time, Ship of Fools may sponsor competitions or other events which require the collection, processing and storage of individual contact and demographic information (e.g., your age and place of residence) to be used for the event. We may also co-sponsor these events along with other companies, in which case the user's individual contact and demographic information is likely to be shared with other participating sponsors, who may use this information as they wish. A registrant's personal contact and demographic information will not be released to any third-party organization other than named sponsors without the user's consent, and Ship of Fools will request that such named sponsors uphold the privacy of the registrants' information by not distributing or sharing such information with any other businesses or organizations.

Surveys – Ship of Fools may from time to time conduct voluntary surveys of visitors to the site to obtain aggregate demographic information about them. Such information may be compiled and shared in the aggregate with advertisers and other third parties, but no personal details will be traceable or associated with specific individuals.

Unsubscribe and data removal policies – If you would like to remove your name and email address from our bulletin board registration database, you can request removal by sending a private message to one of the Member Admins. If you would like to remove your name and email address from our mailing list, you can do so by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the foot of the newsletter.

Other sites – Ship of Fools contains many links to other sites on the Web. We cannot control and are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such other websites.

Further questions? – If you have any further questions or concerns about our privacy policies and the use of personal information, please let us know by using the form below.
