Week 23

March 4, 2013 by scissorina

A busy week around here between work and home projects.

We cleaned out the closet in the spare room and worked on organizing our storage space in the house.  That spare room is starting to look like a nursery!  Very exciting.

I’m knee deep in diaper making, but finally feeling like I am making real progress…  (I think if I can keep on it, they should be done in the next week or so.  Hooray!)  Steve started work on what I hope to be a super cool addition to the nursery… I think I’ll keep it a secret until it’s done.  But trust me – it’s going to be awwwwesome.  :-)  I also have a baby blanket on my knitting needles – it’s my project when I need a break from my sewing machine.

Work has been incredibly stressful lately, but doing my best to keep my chin up and to leave it at the door when I get home.  (Well… since I work at home a lot lately, that’s extra challenging!  But, I’m trying.)

The little guy is moving around a lot these days!  He does a little boogie after I drink coffee or a big glass of water and is especially active when I lay down to go to sleep.  :-)  Guess I’d better get used to that, huh?

PS – it’s taken until now… but I officially feel gigantic.  Thunder thighs and back fat.  These are things I have fought off with a vicious fury until now, but there’s just nothing for it.  My Mom tells me that chubby pregnancies result in better breast milk which makes for babies with healthy appetites who sleep through the night at an early age.  I’m not going to look it up.  I’m just going to believe her this time.  (And let’s encourage her to write a book.  These are the type of pep talks we preggers need.  There will be no fact checking.)

Week 22 – Baby Visits and Babymoon

February 25, 2013 by scissorina

Phew!  Our post is a little late this week as SteveKam and I got back from California late Saturday night and spent Sunday cleaning, unpacking and recuperating.

We had a FANTASTIC trip!  We got to meet our tiniest niece, Jamie – Dave and Nina’s beeeee-yoo-tee-full daughter – as well as my BFF’s ridiculously adorable little girl, Ophelia.  It was amazing to spend time with these little cuties – all the while feeling our little guy  moving around in my belly like a break dancer.  :-)  It was great to get some advice from friends and family and to have a little preview of what we have to look forward to.  (Not just what we have to be nervous about!)

We also took a few days just for the two of us.  We went down to Monterey and Big Sur for our babymoon and it was just what the doctor ordered.  I was in serious need of some time on the ocean and in the beauty of the redwood forests to find center again and to DE-STRESS.

I’ll be posting photos and a little more about our trip later this week… but for now, here’s the bump!

Week 21

February 15, 2013 by scissorina

Happy Lerv Day to all!  :-)  Cheesy, of course, but I am in favor of any holiday that results in me being taken out to dinner and encouraged to indulge in sugary treats.

The Kam and I kept it low key, enjoying the latest ridiculously awesomely ridiculous installment of the Die Hard franchise at the Alamo.  But though I insisted that Kiko being cured of cancer was the only thing I wanted this year, I did receive some pretty flowers and a slew of chocolate covered strawberries (my favvvvvvorite!)

Quick post today as we are off to California bright and early tomorrow.  We get to meet our adorable tiny niece Jamie for the first time (I’m so excited!), as well as my bestie’s baby girl.  Also on the agenda is a mini babymoon – SteveKam and I alone for a couple of days exploring Monterey and Big Sur.  I cannot wait!

Have a great week everyone!  We’ll see if I get motivated to post some vacay photos while on the road.  :-)

Ohhhhh, We’re Halfway There!

February 10, 2013 by scissorina

Aaaaaaaaand we have an answer….

spacer

We have a son on his way!  I’m so excited for SteveKam – I just know they are going to be the best of buddies.  :-)  All I can think about is how this little dude is going to want to be just like his Dad… and how I couldn’t imagine a better role model for my little guy.  We’re having a tiny SteveKam!  I mean, get out!  From the looks of the ultrasound, he’s even got his button nose.

We’re 20 weeks along – the official halfway mark of the pregnancy.  Well, good.  Because, people – and I am going to be brutally honest here – I am getting tired of being pregnant.  Oh, yes, it’s magical and sparkly and full of rainbows and all that – sure.  Some days.  But other days, you just feel fat, tired, ugly as a piece of roadkill with a temperament to match.  Hormones are raging these days and I have to say I am exhausted by the peaks and valleys.  I know I have 4 and half MORE months to look forward to, but at least having hit the halfway point… well, it’s something.  I’ll take it.  :-)

The past few days are a prime example.  I hit a 36 hour (or so) period of just feeling blue beyond consolation.  There were tears.  There was a sleepless night.  There were more tears.  There was an urge to either throw something through a window or set it on fire. There was shouting at the top of my lungs in the kitchen, “I HATE BEING PREGNANT!”  There was a sobbing phone call to my Mom in Switzerland asking her what the Hell was wrong with me.  (To which she basically replied, “Nothing, honey.  You’re pregnant.”)

And then … it passed.

And I felt the little fella move and I went shopping for baby clothes with my sisters and had some Indian food for dinner and smiled and laughed and felt like a normal human being again.

So, we’re back to the sparkly, magic rainbows.  For now.

Halfway there!  Halfway there!  (my mantra until we’re like 3/4 of the way there… hee hee)

Week 19

February 4, 2013 by scissorina

Well, this was a long week.  But, it was full of high points.  :-)

(Decided to wear my Jets jersey yesterday…. in support of next season…. haha)

Kiko Cat is recovering well!  He’s taken over the nursery as his room – and SteveKam is sleeping in there with him at night.  :-)  He’s covered in stitches and haaaaaates his cone of shame, but is eating and drinking and cuddling just fine.  We’re happily spoiling him with tuna and snuggles and whatever else he wants.  Stitches out next week and life will start returning to normal.  Hip hip hooray!

In baby news, we’re closing in on the halfway mark of my pregnancy (how’d that happen?!) and this Friday we go to the doctor for a checkup and a very exciting ultrasound!  If kiddo cooperates, we’ll find out if we are having a son or a daughter.  We can’t wait!

Kiko Cat – An Update

January 30, 2013 by scissorina

Well, life never ceases to surprise me.

We took Mr. Cat to the vet for an ultrasound to check out his interior.  We were told that it was a long shot with an aggressive cancer like this that he didn’t already have tumors on his internal organs, but we wanted to be sure we had all the information so we knew we were doing absolutely everything we could for him.

spacer

They looked and looked and guess what?  No other tumors!

It’s like winning the lottery.  The kitteh lottery.

So, we suddenly have the option to bring our friend in for surgery to remove the bump and give him a good chance at a significant extension to his days of napping and dealing out belly rubs.  There are, of course, no guarantees.  But, I’ve come to learn that life doesn’t generally come with those.  There is always a chance that the cancer will come back or that there is a sneaky tumor hiding somewhere they can’t see (like his brain – yikes!).   All we can do is the best we can – and from there, we just have to see what happens!

spacer

So, back to the vet we go bright and early tomorrow morning, Kiko Cat in tow.  Poor little buddy – he must think we are the meanest people ever for bringing him back and forth so much this past week.  If he only knew…. spacer

Week 18

January 26, 2013 by scissorina

This week, our photo features a special guest – Kiko Cat. (The bump isn’t all that visible… but it’s not much bigger than last week!)

spacer

We’ve had a rough week.  A rough, rough week.

I went through some stress at work that needed to happen in order to save my sanity (and health).  It involved me saying “no” – something I am terrible at when it comes to my job.  It was not fun.

Then….

Then we noticed a bump on the noggin of our beloved Kiko Cat.  A bump that was certainly not there even a few days earlier.  We thought maybe it was a little injury or abscess from a tussle with Louie Cat.  Off we went to the vet the next day and the results of our visit were… shocking.  He has an aggressive mast cell tumor.  It’s bad.  We cried.  (We wailed if you must know.)  We discussed our options and will be bringing our little buddy in for more tests on Monday to see if we can find out exactly what we’re up against.  We are doing our best to not freak out or to mourn him quite yet.  We intend to do all we can to maintain his quality of life – and extend his time with us if at all possible.  We’ll find out if we have those options after the x-rays and ultrasound we’re getting done.

Kiko Cat is SteveKam’s best furry friend.  His loyal companion, always in his lap nuzzling his chin.  This is hard for both of us, but especially for him.  I want so badly to be big and strong and able to bear this load – to help him to my best ability.  But I must admit I am filled to the brim with hormones and every time I look deep into Kiko’s trademark green globe shaped eyes, I break down sobbing.  (And then I hug him for 15 minutes until he wriggles away.)  I really hope Monday’s appointment presents us with some real possibilities to help the little guy.  I just don’t feel like it’s his time to go yet.  :-(

On the bright side, Kiko is currently in great spirits and so far seems completely oblivious to what’s going on.  He hasn’t lost any weight and is eating and behaving completely normally.  We’ve got all fingers and paws crossed that this is a good sign.

In the meantime, cuddles 24-7 and as much tuna as he wants!
