The SEIU family is mourning the loss of a dedicated sister, leader and ULTCW Member, Political Organizer Yolanda Neal.

Yolanda died October 2nd after a terrible car accident in Las Vegas. Her team was en route to canvass to re-elect Pres. Barack Obama.

A true drum major for justice, Yolanda was active in her union and community. As a lost time member who came off of her job in California, she recognized the importance of this election and as a dedicated activist within her local union, accepted the responsibility of getting involved.

An active ULTCW Executive Board Member from San Bernardino County, Yolanda played an enormous role in the fight to stop devastating budget cuts to the IHSS program, which would have resulted in home care recipients losing vital hours of care needed to remain safely at home.

She also fought to pass recent legislation in Sacramento that will transform the state's in-home care program to better serve caregivers and their consumers. She was a constant voice in our efforts to bring respect to the work of home care providers by winning wages and benefits that reflect the importance of the work we do. Yolanda was also a caregiver to her elderly mother, who suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Yolanda’s family and her ULTCW brothers and sisters. ULTCW Pres. Laphonza Butler is now in Las Vegas with Yolanda's family and colleagues.

Yolanda committed everyday to fighting for working people and ensuring everyone had a voice at work, in the legislature and in our democracy. She will be missed.
