Connotate Now Collecting More Than 20 Million Records Per Day for Competitive Intelligence

Sep 5 2012

Momentum builds as more clients adopt Connotate as the backbone of their digital strategy

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – September  5, 2012 – Connotate, the leading provider of solutions that help organizations automate data collection from the Web, today announced that its software is now collecting more than 20 million records per day to support the competitive intelligence initiatives of clients in retail, e-tail and life sciences. In addition, e-tailers are using Connotate to build online inventory catalogues numbering in the tens of millions.

"The 20-million milestone reflects the accelerated adoption of our technology for competitive intelligence purposes within retail,” said Keith Cooper, CEO of Connotate. “The positive results from improved profit margins, immediate awareness of competitor’s online promotions and accelerated stocking of new inventory are compelling our customers to renew and expand their business with us.”

The Connotate solution is capable of scaling up to support much larger deployments as well, as customers may choose either hosted or on-premise options to meet their specific needs. Sample use cases include the following:

  • Sigma-Aldrich, a global provider of biochemicals, monitors competitors’ prices on 187,000 products – accomplishing this task twice as fast using Connotate instead of web scraping tools
  • A specialized e-tailer uses Connotate to monitor competitor’s pricing on 1 million items each day, adjusting prices in near-real time to effectively compete against the largest online retailers in the world
  • A national parts dealer obtains competitive intelligence at the local and national levels on millions of products regularly, using Connotate to support its dynamic pricing strategy

Connotate’s client list also includes Shopzilla, which uses Connotate to continually update content from thousands of sites to showcase millions of products across its portfolio of online shopping brands including Bizrate, Beso, Shopzilla, PrixMoinsCher, and SparDeinGeld.

“Connotate scales with the exponential growth of retail on the on Web, and they do it in a cost-effective, reliable and timely way,” said Jody Mulkey, CIO and SVP, Shopzilla.  Connotate helped Shopzilla achieve a 500% improvement in assimilating data from new retailers, brands and products.

“Connotate is now a well-known leader in providing highly scalable content sourcing solutions for news and financial information providers,” said John Blossom, president and senior analyst at Shore Communications. “They are now gaining impressive traction in other verticals with compelling use cases in competitive intelligence, financial intelligence, background check and market research.”

Connotate will be sharing competitive intelligence use cases in a webinar on September 20, 2012 entitled “Big Data and Competitive Intelligence: Finding Answers Outside the Firewall.”
