FYBF – Bloggy Royalty

by mamagrace71 on March 8, 2013

Strumming my fingers on the keyboard, I wracked my sleep deprived brain for FYBF fodder.

It crossed my mind to write how more than coincidental it was that the Queen and I happened to simultaneously suffer from gastro this week.

No doubt, HRM Lizzy had an entourage accompanying to a 5 star private hospital room.

Meanwhile, curled up in pain on a crusty poo smelling, vomit stained couch 2 rug rats were relentlessly climbing over my comatose body

Then, there was Duchess of Cambridge’s slipping up and spilling the sex of the royal munchkin.  Yes, folks… the cat’s out of the Kensington Castle!

WillKat are apparently having a girl!

But really, where’s the relevance in British Royalty tabloid, anyway?

DPCON13 is going to be our own extravaganza bloggy royalty event, yes?

Curzon Hall is “The Castle” where all the magic’s happening.

For 2 days there’s going to be a great line up of speakers, inspiring workshop sessions, plenty of networking and most importantly, catching up with those who count most.

Not forgetting to mention CARE Australia’s Walk In Her Shoes Challenge that some of us are taking part in the day before.

Hope to see you there!  Tiaras, pearls and all!

Fail proof date night (Groupon Australia Voucher Giveaway)

by mamagrace71 on March 5, 2013

***This is a sponsored post.  I charged an administration fee to write this post and run this giveaway.  All opinions are my own.  I bought my own Groupon Australia Vouchers to spend at the restaurant of my own choice. ***

Thrilled! Thrilled to bits, I am!

Mr Surfer and I aim for one date night per month.  Which, in the grand scheme of twin toddler wrangling, aren’t such bad odds.

But if you’re going to talk about the quality of an evening, well, that’s a different story.

You know how it is.  We got lost in the rarity of such a happy occasions, something inevitably either goes wrong or doesn’t scratch up to our high, much anticipated expectations.

At this unpredictable, crazy stage of parenting, date nights need to be fail proofed.  (Anyone remember our “Life of Pi” fiasco?)

For my Nigella No Friends birthday dinner last year, my thoughtful husband took me to “Blancharu” – a swish, One Chef’s Hat Japanese-French fusion restaurant out in hip Elizabeth Bay.

Walking in, it felt like stepping into one of my old stomping grounds in party central Tokyo.

It was one of those unforgettably delectable evenings when for a split second, I was transformed into a normal person who knew how to put on a pretty dress, put on some make up and eat with a knife and fork.

A delicious 5 degustation course and some crispy white wine to boot.

Civilized, much?

So imagine my joy and elation when I discovered a Groupon Australia special, offering the same 5 course meal at the very restaurant for only $69 for two!

With a bit of planning and begging Grandma to come and baby sit, we’re all set for our fail proof date night tomorrow! Squeee!

Same time same channel to find out how the outing goes!

Curse You, Gastro Scum!!!

March 4, 2013

Gastro rarely occurs in our household but when it does, it’s never without drama and devastation. Last week daycare was shut down for 3 days straight due to an outbreak.   While the twinlets were in turbo mode throughout the whole time they were with me, being quarantined was obviously necessary. With lots of nomadic traveling [...]

Facebook Lovin’ Sunday – 03/03

March 3, 2013

Happy FBLS! No one is happier to start a brand new week than I! What’s worse than gastro striking your family? When the nasty infectious disease strike’s your family daycare centre first, forcing it to be closed for most of the week. As much as I can complain that parenting was a lot tougher than [...]

FYBF – Every Little Step

March 1, 2013

Being a first generation Australian with an Indonesian background, I grew up seeing two very different worlds. The first being filled with opportunities, privileges and wealth. The second?  Not so much. My mum is living evidence how tough a life can be for a woman in a developing country. Being the eldest of 8 with [...]

Married with a maiden name

February 19, 2013

It was never intended to be an act of feminism. Maybe it was the fact that only 4 months after getting married we delved right into the overwhelming world of being first time parents of twins, leaving no time to deal with the laborious bureaucratic paperwork involved. I just never had the urge or felt [...]
