About White Plains

White Plains is a small city that is unique in that it has all the amenities you'd expect from a large city, but also maintains the charm and tranquility of a suburb. About 50,000 people live in White Plains but over 250,000 work within the city limits, and this abundance of businesses helps keep our taxes low.

It's central location has also made White Plains a central shopping area for all of Westchester county. There are two malls within the city limits, as well as other shopping centers and prime retailers - including Target, Whole Foods, and Wal-Mart.

White Plains is also convenient transportation-wise. The White Plains Metro-North station is the third largest station in the Metro-North System (behind Grand Central and Stamford) and serves as the mid-point of the harlem line. The train ride into Grand Central is approximately 30-35 minutes on an express train, and trains run very frequently (about once every 20-30 minutes off peak, but as few as every 5-10 minutes during peak travel). A fair amount of our members also work in the greater Greenwich-Stamford Area which is only 15-20 minutes away by car or bus. I-287 also runs through White Plains, and connects with all of the major north-south highways that run through Westchester and Connecticut, including - I-684, I-87 / Tappan Zee Bridge, I-95, the Hutchinson River Pkwy, the Bronx River Pkwy and the Sprain Brook Pkwy.
