Exceptional Innovation is demonstrating its home control software in the "NextGen" house on the grounds of the Consumer Electronics Show this week. "Lifeware: Media Center Edition" enables Media Center PCs to be used for controlling lighting, climate, audio, security, and surveillance systems throughout the home, the company says.

Lifeware: Media Center Edition is said to allow users to easily transition from enjoying digital entertainment on a Media Center PC, to dimming lights or shades, checking security, and adjusting temperature -- all with the familiar remote control interface. "We're talking about software that goes beyond just controlling the devices in your home," said Seale Moorer, founding partner of Exceptional Innovation.

According to the company, the software is "hardware-neutral" and leverages existing and emerging standards and technologies in an open architecture, thereby providing flexibility to home automation dealers and customers. For example, in the NextGen home, the software is being demonstrated with a combination of systems from Lutron, AprilAire, Axis, General Electric, and Netstreams.

Lifeware: Media Center Edition supports Microsoft Media Center Edition 2005 based PCs, and will be available to the public in Q2, 2005, the company says.
