Google+ Profile Tip

I am a fan of Google+ for many reasons. I was doing some stream reading this morning on my phone and I found someone new I wanted to follow. (trick to gaining followers: share stuff that is interesting) I wanted to see what this person’s website was so I could subscribe to more of their stuff. When I looked at their profile on Google+ I was surprised that their website was their Facebook page.
On a whim I decided to check the profile of more people and I discovered that 8 out of 10 had their Facebook page listed as their website.
I looked at MY profile and sure enough – my website was listed as a link to my Facebook profile. No disrespect to Facebook (ahem) but I so rarely am logged on to that site that it just seemed absurd.
I tried editing the link within the Google+ mobile app but it was not editable. I had to go to my profile page on my computer. When I got there I saw that Facebook was listed as the first link on my “other profiles” section.
I added my website and then moved it to the top of the list. When I checked on the mobile app I was relieved to see that my site was then listed as my website.
How to update/ correct your website on Google+ mobile app
1. Check within the mobile app if your site is listed (as opposed to a social media platform)
2. Log into your Google+ profile on a computer and select “profile” in left navigation and then “edit profile” in top navigation
3. Scroll down to find “other profiles” and click to edit
4. Add your website as a custom link and then hover your mouse on the left of the name of your site until you see move icon. Drag your site to the top of the list and save.
When you look at your profile on the mobile app it will now show whatever website you have listed in the top position.

I love it because I feel like I am in charge. FB just feels like a bucket purse with everything and everybody lumped into one thing.
