Commitment and Proper Training Will Get You There!

Training for the Avon Walk has a multitude of benefits. Not only is walking great exercise, but you have the opportunity to meet wonderful people who - like yourself -are taking action in the fight against breast cancer! With the right training, the determination, thecommitment, and some dedicated time, you can reach your goal to get in shape for the Walk.

Remember that the best type of training, regardless of fitness level, is to begin moderately. Increase your training only in small increments. Pushing yourself to go too far, too fast, will only result in injury. Pace yourself and resolve to enjoy the journey - take it slowly, smell the fresh air, admire the scenery!

spacer To help you with your training and to add some fun and fitness into the process, there are volunteer-led Training Walks in the areas surrounding Avon Walk event cities. Participating in these Training Walks are a great way to help you build momentum, endurance and strength - a perfect combination to successfully participate in the Walk weekend. Training Walks are also a fun way to meet other Avon Walk members. (Just remember, walking and talking go together quite nicely!) All Training Walks are free and open to the public. Check on the Local City page of the Walk you wish to participate in and find a listing of upcoming Training Walks in your area as well as in-depth information on Walking Shoes, Socks, Gear & Clothing, Tips for Walking and Stretching. Your personal Walker Buddy will also help you create an appropriate training plan.
