Like Mary Tyler Moore, But Different.

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois until I was ten years old. Though I spent the next sixteen years in four other states before returning home with my family in 1995, mine is definitely a case of “You can take the girl out of Chicago but you can’t take Chicago out of the girl.” I’ve got fierce pride for the Windy City. In fact, I bet I could write a book about it. Wait, I did.

I currently live in the western suburbs of Chicago with my husband Jim, our two boys, (college junior D and high school senior J) and our beagle, Roxie. I adore taking Zumba classes and spend lots and lots of time at my local Dailey Method studio. I am one of the partners of Social RevUp, a company which connects brands and bloggers, and I’m thrilled to be co-producing the “Listen To Your Mother” show, which came to Chicago for the very first time on May 6, 2012 and will return each year.

I created my online home here at Suburban Scrawl in 2007 (where I write about parenting teens, fitness, the city of Chicago, travel, and a bit of randomness on the side) and am currently a Featured Blogger for Hallmark’s “Life Is A Special Occasion” campaign. I also write offline as a freelancer, most often creating business features for NAILPRO, a trade magazine for the salon industry. And then of course there are my books.

I have a Type A personality which is, frankly, a blessing and a curse. I have been known to drive those closest to me absolutely nuts, but I’m also known for getting things done and being a great friend…so it all balances out, at least according to my calculations.

Visiting the city (and taking advantage of the great food, shopping, events, shows, scenery, and attractions it offers) is one of my favorite things to do and when I get there, I do not stop grinning from ear to ear. I have tossed my hat in the air out of giddiness, while standing on the corner of Michigan and Wacker. Jim believes I need an intervention. I beg to differ.
