Pulsar Online - free browser game

Pulsars are highly magnetized, rotating neutron stars that emit a beam of electromagnetic radiation. The radiation can only be observed when the beam of emission is pointing towards the Earth. This is called the lighthouse effect and gives rise to the pulsed nature that gives pulsars their name. Because neutron stars are very dense objects, the rotation period and thus the interval between observed pulses is very regular. For some pulsars, the regularity of pulsation is as precise as an atomic clock. The observed periods of their pulses range from 1.4 milliseconds to 8.5 seconds. A few pulsars are known to have planets orbiting them, such as PSR B1257+12. Werner Becker of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics said in 2006, "The theory of how pulsars emit their radiation is still in its infancy, even after nearly forty years of work."

Pulsar-Online is an multiplayer tactical simulation game with an international range. Players get together to fight with or against each other. To play you only need a regular web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. That's all.

Game engine update to version 3a

Few minutes age I've uploaded new game engine version to the server. Comparing to previous version, changes are like follows:

  • players can drop rookie turns
  • during table update, engine updates only changed fields, not whole row
  • some field have been moved to temporary, memory based tables. This should improve performace by 5%
  • several bugfixes in: alliances, bank, cargo and storage
  • several security issues fixed
  • several minor bugs and typos fixed
  • few minor layout changes (browser cache purge might be required)

Alpha 3 version is up and running

Alpha 3 version is up and running.

Major changes (against Alpha.2 [npc combat]) are:

  • Alliances - players can create, join and manage alliances.
  • Bank
  • Many performance improvements. It is not noticable (now) but will be when more players will show up
  • New colors and minor layout changes. Major layout change is planned for Beta version
  • Social thingies -> buddy list
  • Account management -> Players can change name and password
  • Many smaller functions. I even do not remember all of them

Like I noticed before, returning players have to register again. Have fun, and please, report any bugs here

Open Alpha.3 tests

Almost all planned game engine functions are now completed. A few tweaks and fixes, and Alpha.3 version will go public. According to schedule, Alpha.3 will be avaible next sunday (01-05-2011).

Due to new password hash function (security reasons), accounts created during previous Alpha tests will not be accessible. All players will have to register again. As a nice feature, Connect with Facebook will be also avaibe. This will greatly simplify registration process.

To be short, 3 messages for today:

  1. Pulsar Online now has an official site address playpulsar.com
  2. My former MMORPG officially went down today. Omricon Beta's site is no longer avaible. All web traffic is now redirected playpulsar.com
  3. Pulsar's next version (Alpha.3) will be the last alpha.  After Alpha.3 I plan to release one more test version (Beta) and go public. If all goes well, Alpha.3 will be deployed late april/early may.
