SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego-based songwriter who wrote The Eagles' "Peaceful Easy Feeling" will be honored Saturday-- the 40th anniversary of the hit song's release -- with a proclamation from Mayor Jerry Sanders' office.

Jack Tempchin wrote the lyrics while relaxing at a Wienerschnitzel in Mission Hills, where the proclamation will be presented to him at 2 p.m.

The Eagles included Tempchin's song on their first album, which was released on Dec. 1, 1972. He also penned the band's classic "Already Gone," as well as "You Belong To The City," sung by Glenn Frey for the "Miami Vice" television series, and the theme song for the film "Thelma and Louise."

The proclamation declares Saturday as "Peaceful Easy Feeling" Day in the city of San Diego. The declaration is one of the mayor's final acts before he leaves office on Monday.

"Jack Tempchin has been a quiet and positive force for the community as he plays almost every charity event presented to him, including Make-A-Wish San Diego, Feeding the Soul Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Museum of Making Music, North County Humane Society, and many others," the proclamation states.

Tempchin used to book musical acts at San Diego State University's iconic Backdoor music hall and collaborated with singer-songwriter Tom Waits, a former neighbor. He also has worked with Glenn Campbell, Tanya Tucker, Tricia Yearwood, Chris Hillman, Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Rivers and Linda Ronstadt, among others.
