ActiveSync®
Microsoft® ActiveSync is the application that enables a Pocket PC to exchange information with a computer. The Pocket PC must be running Microsoft Windows Mobile™ or Windows CE.
For example: You can use ActiveSync to install new applications on your Pocket PC, to back up the files that are on your Pocket PC, and to synchronise the emails between your Pocket PC and your computer.

Advanced Lane Guidance
Advanced Lane Guidance lets you prepare for motorway exits and junctions by showing you which lane you should be in. For some exits and junctions, a still image shows the turning and the lane you should take. For other exits and junctions, the lane you should take is shown in the Status bar. Bluetooth® Bluetooth enables information to be sent between electronic devices that have Bluetooth. If you use Bluetooth you don't need to connect the devices together using wires.
For example:
You can establish a Bluetooth connection between your mobile phone and your TomTom device to receive Traffic updates when you're on the move.

Bluetooth® GPS receiver
The TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver is a GPS receiver that you can use with your mobile phone or PDA. To use the Bluetooth GPS receiver you have to establish a Bluetooth connection between your mobile phone or PDA and the Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Car charger
Using the car charger, you can charge or power your TomTom device in the car. Plug thecar charger into your car’s cigarette lighter socket.


CLA
CLA stands for cigarette lighter adaptor.

Computer voices
A computer voice, also known as text-to-speech, uses a text-to-speech program to convert written text, for example an instruction like “Turn right”, into the sound of a human voice. Your TomTom device makes use of text-to-speech technology to generate computer voices.

Enhanced Positioning Technology (EPT)
Enhanced Positioning Technology or EPT estimates your location when GPS reception is poor, such as when you drive between tall buildings.
Your GO 920/930/940/950 uses positioning sensors to monitor your acceleration and direction and then estimates your current location.

GPS

GPS stands for Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS uses satellites to locate your current position. There is no charge for using the GPS system. In order to locate your position, your TomTom device must have a clear view of the sky. It will not work if you are inside a building or in a tunnel. It is not affected by the weather conditions and works anywhere in the world.
GPS is operated and controlled by the Government of the United States of America, who are responsible for its availability and accuracy.

HD Traffic
Your device automatically receives updated traffic information. When you plan a journey, your route is calculated by taking into account the current local traffic conditions. If any delays are found on your route, you are given the chance to re-plan a faster route avoiding one or more incidents.

Palm HotSync is the application that enables a Palm OS handheld device to exchange information with a computer.
For example:

It takes factors into account that may influence the time it takes you to get to your destination, including traffic lights, roundabouts, steep slopes, speed bumps and whether you are traveling on weekends or a weekday.

Memory card
A memory card is used to store information. Some TomTom products use a memory card to store the TomTom application and maps.
There are many different types of memory cards. At the moment, TomTom products can be bought that use the following kinds of memory cards:

Pairing is another name for establishing a Bluetooth connection. It is also sometime called bonding.

PDA
PDA stands for Personal Digital Assistant. Pocket PCs and Palm handheld devices are examples of PDAs. PDAs are pocket-sized, handheld devices that you can use like a computer, and often as a phone.


POI
POI stands for Point of Interest. A POI can be any interesting place, for example a restaurant, a cinema, or a hospital. Maps that come with TomTom products include lots of POIs.


Q

QuickGPSfix™
Using QuickGPSfix, your TomTom downloads information about where the GPS satellites will be for the next 7 days. Your TomTom can the calculate where you are very quickly and with only a weak GPS signal.


RS-MMC card An RS-MMC card is a type of memory card. RS-MMC stands for reduced size multimedia card.

USB
USB is a simple way to connect devices to a computer so that information can be exchanged. Using a USB cable, you can connect a device to the USB port on a computer. Both the device and the computer must have a USB port. USB stands for Universal Serial Bus.


Z

ZIP file
A ZIP file is a file that contains one or more other files. The files in the ZIP file are compressed so that they are smaller. As they are smaller, ZIP files can be downloaded from the internet more quickly.
To use the files in a ZIP file, they must be extracted.
