0Travel Anywhere With The Delsey Helium Aero
The Holidays are finally here and for some of us, that means so is the dreaded holiday travel. With three destinations on my holiday road map this year, I was looking for a carry-on suitcase that would fit both my clothing and plenty of holiday gifts but that was still light enough for me to wheel through the city. As New Yorkers, we are particularly tough on our luggage. We rely on our luggage to survive airport baggage claims, taxi trunks, and city sidewalks. We expect a suitcase to be durable, stylish, and just light enough to pick up and cart down the subway steps.
We've recently been testing two hard-side carry-on spinners, at two different price points, that each met different criteria for our staff's travel needs. Earlier this week, we reviewed the Samsonite Cosmolite 20″ Spinner which offered a classy design and a tough exterior, at a price. At a whopping $400, the Samsonite was a stretch for some of us so we were immediately intrigued by the similarly sleek hard-side Delsey Helium Aero Carry-On Expandable Trolley. This carry-on spinner is a very similar alternative, offering a sleek, contemporary design of 100 % polycarbonate. While it weighs in at 8.7 pounds (versus the Samsonite's impressive 5 pounds), we still found it to be really easy to navigate and to pick up over curbs and stairs.
The four 360-degree rotation wheels allowed us to smoothly maneuver over sidewalks, light gravel and carpeting. And the recessed, one-button locking handle was light and comfortable in your hand, having been advertized a molded ergonomic comfort grip handle. And ours was a nice bright, glossy red, and the bag is also available in blue and platinum. The outer texture looks classy, and nicely traditional.
At an additional four inches of room in length and an additional inch of width over the Cosmolite allowed us to fit a more volume, but the heavier weight did mean that we couldn't load the suitcase with quite as many heavy items. Much like the previous Delsey Helium Shadow we tried, we found this to be a great bargain- it still has integrated TSA-compatible locks and sturdy zippers, and moves smoothly. If you need to travel this season, and want to save some money on luggage but still get a hard-side spinner, the Delsey Helium Aero offers a nifty expandability and a great price- listed at $300 (but we found it available on most online retailers for $110).
