With a population under 500,000, Jackson is small enough to feel like a close-knit community, but big enough to host abundant choices in entertainment, dining, shopping, and more. Just outside the campus of Millsaps, there's plenty to see and do in Jackson, whether you choose the creative Fondren business and entertainment district to the north, the resurgent Midtown community to the west, the charming, historic Belhaven neighborhood to the east, or the city's vibrant downtown south of campus. "Jackson has been integral to my learning experience at Millsaps," said senior Allie Jordan. "The greater Jackson community has been a main element to several of my classes, such as the Midtown area neighboring Millsaps. Jackson has provided me with excellent entertainment as well as ways for me to grow as an academic." Learn more about Jackson ... |

Summer Bailey is among Millsaps College graduates who want to make sure Mississippi's rural residents have access to medical care. A 2012 alumnus, Bailey is a first-year medical student at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, and a Mississippi Rural Physicians Program scholarship recipient. The program was authorized by the Mississippi Legislature in 2007 to help address the challenges of Mississippi's health care crisis. The scholarship provides $30,000 a year during the four years of medical school. For every year of scholarship money a student receives, he or she is expected to practice in a rural area of Mississippi. Of the 525 medical students at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, 46 are Millsaps graduates. Six of those graduates currently are scholars in the Mississippi Rural Physicians Program. At William Carey University, six of the 306 medical school students are Millsaps alumni, and two are in the Mississippi Rural Physician Scholarship Program. Read more ...
