March 9 & 10 . Circus Incognitus

Circus Incognitus

March 9 & 10; 1 & 3:30 p.m.
Victoria Theatre
www.victoriatheatre.com/
Beginning with an empty stage and a single microphone, a shy Jamie Adkins musters the courage to face what he fears most, speaking in public. Using everyday objects to perform circus routines and building the set with discarded props, Jamie creates a backdrop for his humble idea of what a show should be. The audience follows Jamie on an adventure about having the courage to try new ideas, pushing the limits, and not giving up when all goes wrong. Ages 5 & up. $15.

Come early or stay late for a kids' hands-on workshop at the Victoria Theatre! Wonder how they do all those mind (and body)-bending tricks on the stage? At 2:15 p.m., kids 5-10 years old can learn a little about juggling, miming, bouncing and more. Includes a tasty, kid-friendly snack, reader’s theatre and a chance to learn a trick or two. $5 per child for workshop. 228-3630.

Tyson’s professional research interests are broad, but include star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structure of our Milky Way.

In 2001, Tyson was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on a 12-member commission that studied the future of the U.S. aerospace industry. The final report was published in 2002 and contained recommendations (for Congress and for the major agencies of the government) that would promote a thriving future of transportation, space exploration, and national security.  Learn more at www.wright.edu/presidential-lecture-series/speakers#tyson

End the War on the Poor!

Jobs Not Cuts! Jobs Not War!

The government at the federal and state levels are planning massive cuts to services and jobs to millions of people. Hundreds of thousands of people will be hurt by across-the-board cuts to education, home heating & housing assistance, public health, and social services. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are also on the chopping block. At the same time we are wasting billions on wars in the Middle East and Africa. We believe in putting people first by responding to budget crises, and the economic and war policy with education, advocacy and social action.

We will meet at 10-10:15 AM at the Community Action Partnership offices at 101 S. Main St., Dayton. The march will begin at 10:30 AM. We will rally and picket at the intersection of Main and Stewart Streets by the fairgrounds from 11AM to noon. Please bring an old pot or pan to make noise and get attention. Invite your families and friends to this important action.
