LLF Launches DC’s First Mobile local Music Streaming App & DCWeek Launch Party Announcement

October 24, 2012 listenlocalfirst

Listen Local First is turning one year old!! We are a DC based local music initiative that works with local businesses, arts organizations and artists to create alternate avenues for local music exploration.  Our goal is to highlight the talented and diverse music created in and around the district while promoting and creating relationships with the broader cultural and business community.

LLF has recently partnered with Cannon.fm to help launch DC’s first local music streaming App.  The goal of this App is to create a centralized platform and community for artists and listeners to engage with their local music scene.  This App also will provide a potential solution for many of our local businesses to stream playlists and highlighted tracks of local artists in their businesses to better promote our talented local scene.

What is Cannon.fm?

If you’re unfamiliar with cannon.fm, it is essentially Pandora for local music. Specifically, it is a free music/radio streaming app and website with content comprised entirely of local musicians. The listener is able to populate a streaming radio station based on any number of criteria, including genre, location, similar artists, etc. Cannon.fm currently only exists in Columbus Ohio but our goal is to launch the DC version of this App by November.

Partnership with LLF

As mentioned above, many people have been asking about where they can go to listen to tracks from local artists and find a comprehensive database of local artists and their upcoming shows.  We hope to create a solution with this App.  Right now the App is just in its Beta phase.  In the next couple of weeks/months users will be able to not only filter by city and genre, but they will be able to search for specific bands, create favorite lists,  filter by upcoming shows, and create and share playlists with each other.
