Routes to registration

There are three routes by which an individual can apply for RTTP status. These three routes recognize the different ways in which an individual may have gained the knowledge and experience necessary to be a successful technology transfer professional. All applicants must submit an application form and supporting documentation as outlined below and pay a fee of US$250.

Route I - designed for those early in their technology transfer career

Please attach documentary evidence (a scanned copy of an attendance certificate or an email from the training course provider confirming your participation) of 60 Continuing Education (CE) credits (approximately equivalent to sixty hours of training which  may also include a maximum of 30 hours at association conferences and workshops) provided by one or more of the founding associations (ASTP, AUTM, ATMT, KCA or PraxisUnico).

Additionally, please submit a brief (1000 words or less) overview of a technology or knowledge transfer achievement in which you played a key role and which your direct supervisor has attested with their signature. Examples would include but are not limited to a significant deal wherein you were the lead negotiator, lead on a collaboration having substantial impact on your institution, development and/or delivery of training programs (does not include panel discussions) for the technology transfer profession.

Route II - for mid-career technology transfer professionals with 3-5 years experience

Please submit a brief (1000 words or less) overview of a significant technology or knowledge transfer achievement in which you played a key role and which your direct supervisor has attested with their signature. Examples would include but are not limited to a significant deal wherein you were the lead negotiator, lead on a significant collaboration having substantial impact on your institution, development and or delivery of training programs (does not include panel discussions) for the technology transfer profession, and/or published multiple, peer reviewed papers relevant to the TT Profession.

Certificates and qualifications relevant to technology transfer may be considered as part of the application. The applicant is expected to show that any such certificates or qualifications are directly related to the commercial development of early stage technologies. Applicants must include details of the awarding body and course syllabus. University degrees in business, science or other technical field would not qualify.

Route III - for practitioners with significant years of experience and a demonstrated track record of achievement and contribution to the profession

Please attach a short CV or resume demonstrating five or more years' experience in a technology transfer explicitly highlighting three or more of the following:

  • That you occupy or have occupied a senior (director level. team leader or equivalent) position in licensing within your institution. Please include size of institution, scope of role, who you report to and the roles/numbers who report to you.
  • That you have been a lead negotiator on one or more of the following: major licensing agreements; major strategic relationships or collaboration agreement; major equity-financing deals.  Include details demonstrating the size and number of the deals.
  • That you have been an initiator, architect and lead of a major technology transfer or knowledge transfer initiative or programme (resulting in a budget of US$3m+). Please provide a description of the initiative and your role in its genesis and execution.
  • That you have directed at least three practitioner courses or workshops for one of the founding associations. Please list the courses and explain your role as developer, presenter or other.
  • That you have published multiple peer reviewed, thought-leadership papers relevant to the TT Profession. Please provide a full reference for the publication.

Demonstration of experience

When applying through the routes I & II, applicants are required to submit a brief (1000 words or less) overview of a significant technology or knowledge transfer achievement in which you played a key role and which your direct supervisor has attested with their signature.

The overview should include the background on the project and the ‘impact’ that the applicant had on the outcome of it. As part of the submission we also require supporting information from the applicant’s manager – to confirm that the applicant’s contribution was as described in the overview.

Applicants should tell their own story, remembering that what we’re looking for above all is evidence that the applicant made a significant impact on the outcome and that their intervention resulted in knowledge being used for the good of the economy and society.

Language: English.

Confidentiality: judges will be bound, however we generally do not need to know the confidential elements of the deal. Should we wish to use the case as material for a vignette or case then we will seek permission before doing so.
