LGBT Not Welcome
I was on a tour with my university band over the weekend, and one of the places we played at was another university. We ate our dinner in their cafeteria, and being that there were a couple ensembles there, the sitting room wasn't spacious in the least.
My friends and I were looking for a table to sit at, and I saw one open in the middle of the room. As I got closer to it, I saw a piece of paper on the table. Thinking it was some idiots trying to reserve a table, I kept heading that way.
When I got to the table I read the piece of paper clearly. I was disgusted. It had a big circle in the middle of the page with a line through it. The words in the circle? LGBT. Underneath it I saw "No gays allowed!!! You're not wanted here!!!!" scribbled on the paper. I was going to sit there in spite of the paper, but my less-than-straight friend spoke in a panicked voice, "You're killing me, Rachel! You're killing me! Let's go sit somewhere else." So we did.
Just because a person doesn't swing the same direction as you doesn't make them diseased. It doesn't make them a different species, and it doesn't make them less worthy to live. I was disgusted when I read that paper and I found it completely unnecessary. I expect more of society.

I'm a bisexual girl, and the things that some people do disgust me. Just because someone is different than you, doesn't give you the right to attack them.

We all wish that society's evolutionary thoughts would have caught up with everyone now, but sadly that is not the case. Most of the time, it's fear of something different and that cycle of hate keeps getting passed down to generation to generation. We as a society need to teach the ignorant the truth and let them realize what it means to treat their fellow man. I've always been taught as a Christian to hate the sin, not the sinner. For me however, I feel that in hating the sin, you inadvertanly hate the sinner as well. Instead, just love the sinner and show them what it means to really respect and treat your fellow man how you wanted to be treated.

that's ridiculous. it was one of the those sheltered, live-in-the-middle-of-nowhere schools, wasn't it? i only say that because clearly the people there were used to being exposed only to people exactly like themselves. i almost feel sorry that they are so ignorant. i am sorry that you had to deal with that.
