The Chair, Joanna Foster, leads the Crafts Council board of 11 Trustees, including four Maker Trustees:

• 

  Joanna Foster CBE: Chair

  Joanna Foster was appointed chair of the Crafts Council in 2006. In 2010 she was reappointed for a further three years.

  She is an Associate Fellow of Oxford University’s SAID Business School and an Hon. Fellow of St. Hilda’s College.

  Joanna recently stepped down from nearly ten years of chairing the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, NHS Trust in Oxford. She strongly believes that a good environment makes a positive difference to healing and encouraged the development of a very lively arts programme in the hospital.

  She sits on the boards of a number of different organisations, including Oxford Philomusica and Oxfordshire Common Purpose, and is President of Oxfordshire Craft Guild. She was formerly a Board member for the Welsh National Opera, Deputy Chair and Governor of Oxford Brookes University, and President of Relate.

  Joanna previously chaired the Lloyds TSB Foundation and the Equal Opportunities Commission, and was Founder Director and Chair of the BT Forum and of the National Work-Life Forum.

  She is a practising leadership coach.

  Joanna lives in Oxford and has lived and worked in France and the USA where she developed her passion for contemporary craft and especially textiles and ceramics.

• Andrew Harrison: Deputy Chair & Trustee. Andrew has recently set up an independent consultancy firm, Spaces That Work Ltd.

  Previously Director of DEGW Ltd, an independent design consultancy developing innovative learning and working spaces in the UK and internationally. Andrew Harrison undertakes educational research and design projects in schools and universities and has published widely on learning spaces, intelligent buildings and the future workplace. He is also Chair of Global Yell, a Shetland-based arts development charity focusing on music and textiles.

• Chris McIntyre: Chair, Finance & Business Committee. Dean of Cultural Affairs and Director of UHArts at the University of Hertfordshire

  Chris McIntyre has previously held management and governance roles at Loughborough College of Art and Design and within the East Midlands Arts Board and has worked in an advisory capacity nationally with a range of arts and education organisations, including Arts Council England, the Crafts Council and the Council for Higher Education in Art and Design. Within his region, he serves on the boards of a school, a museum and a theatre company. He has long-term interests in craft education and in economic and employability issues for creative arts graduates and regularly contributes to national and international conferences in these areas. He is currently engaged in a number of international education projects in the creative arts and in the business environment.

• Jules Campbell: Chair, Audit Committee. Head of International Development , SJ Berwin LLP

  Jules Campbell is responsible for the corporate development, marketing and business development at the international law firm, SJ Berwin. Jules' responsibilities encompass select offices in the Middle East, the Far East, and Europe namely: Dubai; Hong Kong; Italy; and Shanghai. Previously, Jules held senior management roles in corporate strategy, marketing and business development functions within the Magic Circle. Jules continues to advise Boards and Executive Committees in major corporates and financial institutions entering into the Middle East region on business planning, regulatory approvals, and third party consents.

Trustees

• Professor Stephen Dixon: Maker Trustee. Ceramist

  Steve Dixon has been active as a maker for over 23 years, primarily in ceramics, specialising in the genre of social and political narrative. He regularly exhibits both nationally and internationally and his work is represented in major public collections worldwide. Since 1998 he has worked as Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he leads the Crafts Research Centre. He has lectured and taught throughout the UK, and recently in the US and Australia.

• Shelly Goldsmith: Maker Trustee. Textile Artist

  Shelly Goldsmith has over 20 years studio experience. She was awarded the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize for Textiles in 2002 and has exhibited at major museums and galleries in Britain, Europe, the US and Japan. She has work in many notable public collections including the V&A. An experienced educator she lectures in Textiles at UCA and contributes to many UK Universities and Art Colleges as a visiting lecturer, external examiner and researcher.

• Andrea Nixon: Trustee. Executive Director, Tate Liverpool

  Andrea Nixon was appointed Executive Director of Tate Liverpool in 2006, and is responsible for all business, marketing and operational activities. She is a member of the Regional Council for Arts Council England, North West, the Workforce Development Group for UK Visual Arts for Creative & Cultural Skills, a board member of Renaissance North West and the Tourism panel for the North-West Development Agency, as well as chairing a number of initiatives for the Liverpool Arts Regeneration Consortium, including leading the Liverpool Creative Apprenticeships programme in 2008-09.

• Elizabeth Ogilvie-Smith: Trustee. Associate Fellow at Oxford University's Saïd Business School (as Elizabeth Paris)

  Elizabeth Ogilvie-Smith left JP Morgan as a Managing Director in 2002 after 20 years in investment banking, and now works both with Oxford University, and as a consultant in investment banks. For Oxford University she is responsible for the Oxford-Zhejiang programmes in China that are part of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative. Governance roles include OCVC FE College, which includes the former Ryecote Wood, and Kids@Art, where she has a hands-on role in bringing craftspeople into primary schools.

• Brigid Rentoul: Trustee. Head of Legal at Winton Capital Management Limited, a scientific investment management company

  Brigid started her career as an in-house lawyer for The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and then became a corporate finance lawyer in private practice, both in the US and the UK. Brigid was a partner in the Corporate Department at Linklaters for fifteen years, managing Linklaters’ relationship with key global clients including acting as external counsel to the Tate, and was a member of Linklaters' Diversity Committee and Information Systems Board.

• Beverley Rider: Trustee. Architectural Interior Designer

  Beverley Rider trained at The Inchbald School of Design and runs her own design practice based in London’s Mayfair, working primarily on high-end residential projects. She was previously a contributing editor and columnist at The Wall St Journal’s WSJ magazine and is currently a mentor on the Walpole Group’s Crafted programme. Her earlier career was in human resources, latterly as a Vice President at JP Morgan where she worked in both London and New York. Beverley is a passionate and committed patron and collector of contemporary art, craft and design.

• Peter Ting: Maker Trustee. Ceramist

  Peter Ting established his own ceramics company Tingware in 1987, and has exhibited widely and worked on commissions for Liberty, London; Gumps, San Francisco; Barney's, Tokyo and Neiman Marcus, New York. He is currently working as a consultant to Asprey, as well as Royal Crown Derby, and the Crafts Council of Ireland. He is a former board member of the Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester.
