RE not an option for GCSE

Posted on June 12, 2012 by admin| Comments Off

Large amount of pupils are not given the option to pick RE for GCSE, there was a survey of 1,800 adults and half of them said people back obligatory lessons in RE up to the age of 16. A Department for Education spokesman said: “RE remains a statutory part of the wider school curriculum for every single student up to 16. It’s rightly down to schools themselves to judge how it is taught and how it fits into wider school life.

John Keast, chairman of the RE Council, said the group was necessary to counter concerns that the subject was becoming increasingly marginalised by Coalition reforms to education.

This includes a Government decision to exclude RE from the English Baccalaureate – a new school leaving certificate that rewards pupils gaining good GCSE grades the five core academic disciplines of maths, English, science, foreign languages and either history or geography.

It is feared that this is leading to a decline in the number of schools offering the subject at GCSE level.

Mr Keast said: “There have been a number of unintended consequences for RE as a result of changes made by the Government.

Faith Christian Church renovating Gardiner site

Posted on April 2, 2012 by admin| Comments Off

The congregation is a few weeks away from completing a five-year renovation project at the former Robinson’s Health Facility on Brunswick Avenue, across the street from Laura E. Richards School.

In the church’s new space, a number of walls were removed to open up the space for a sanctuary and fellowship hall. Patient rooms were turned into classrooms and offices. The large floor plan includes a fellowship hall, large conference rooms, a food pantry, library, a youth area with pool and foosball tables, several classrooms, and a nursery.

The building has a backup generator and commercial kitchen and is in the process of becoming a certified disaster relief center, he said.

“The kitchen is the same as it was when it was a nursing home,” he said. “We have people here who like to cook big pots of food.”

Dickey said the church will hold an open house on May 19 following a dedication service at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to the service and open house. Refreshments will be served.

“We’ll be giving tours and talking about what we’re doing and what the future has to hold,” Dickey said.

The church’s old home just south of the State House complex had a lot of zoning issues, and that limited what could be done with that property, so it was on the market several years, said Richard Dickey of Richmond, a church member.

Government says, Christians have no right to wear cross at work

Posted on March 21, 2012 by admin| Comments Off

A document seen by The Sunday Telegraph discloses that ministers will argue that because it is not a “requirement” of the Christian faith, employers can ban the wearing of the cross and sack workers who insist on doing so. Christians do not have a right to wear a cross or crucifix openly at work, the Government is to argue in a landmark court case.

They say that Christians are given less protection than members of other religions who have been granted special status for garments or symbols such as the Sikh turban and kara bracelet, or the Muslim hijab.
Last year it emerged that Mrs Eweida, a British Airways worker, and Mrs Chaplin, a nurse, had taken their fight to the European Court in Strasbourg after both faced disciplinary action for wearing a cross at work.

The Government has also set out its intention to oppose cases brought by two other Christians, including a former registrar who objected to conducting civil partnership ceremonies for homosexual couples.
Lillian Ladele, who worked as a registrar for Islington council in north London for 17 years, said she was forced to resign in 2007 after being disciplined, and claimed she had been harassed over her beliefs.

25 left dead in christian protest

Posted on October 13, 2011 by admin| Comments Off

A christian protest was ended in tears for some families in Cairo in Egypt on the 10th of October. This was a violent protest and the army was called in to try and help but they only made it worse by actually trying to run over people and it is said that out of the 25 that died 17 of them died due to gun shot wounds. The Egyptian Generals have denied these accusations by saying that the armed forces would never and have never opened fire on the people. They also said that the vehicles where not trying to run people over but that hey were just trying to get around the people but in the footage that has been shown it is clear that they tried to run people over and succeeded in doing so on a few with 300 people left injured.

In Egypt the Christians make up a mere 10% of of Egypt’s 85 million population and it is unknown of how many of the 25 killed we Christians.

The military council have been left in charge whilst an election is organised.
