The Future of MOOCs: Motivation, Models and Monetization

Why is Silicon Valley so interested in education these days? And why are massive open online courses (MOOCs) so important to the future of education?

MOOCs are more than an opportunity to make education accessible; they are a potential goldmine buried in open source. Given the level of hype and attention MOOCs are drawing in the the media, it is time to take a closer look at what forces are driving their adoption, which models best fit the learners’ needs, and the ways MOOCs are being monetized to cover their costs.

In this 50-minute session, Dr. Christopher Sessums, co-creator of PLEK12, will discuss the historical background of MOOCs, the driving force behind their growing popularity, and the potential paths to monetization.

This session will be the first in a series of webinars dedicated to understanding and building MOOCs.
