Admission Deadlines  |  Application Status

Thank you for your interest in NKU.  To be considered for freshman admission to Northern Kentucky University, you must apply for admission and submit the necessary credentials.

Your checklist for admission to NKU:

• Complete the NKU application
• Pay the application fee
• Have your guidance counselor complete the Pre-College Curriculum (PCC) form
• Submit an official copy of your high school transcripts
• Send your ACT and/or SAT test scores to NKU
  

You must complete these items to be considered for admission to Northern Kentucky University. 

Application for Admission
Online Application  

After completing the application:

• Pay the Application Fee (non-refundable)   
  There is a non-refundable $40 application fee. A fee waiver may be requested in instances of financial hardship if accompanied by a letter from a high school counselor or principal, or certification of financial assistance by a case worker affiliated with a state agency. 

• Submit Official High School Transcript
  You will want to request an official high school transcript from your guidance counselor.  In addition, you will need to print the pre-college curriculum form and complete Section 1. Then ask your guidance counselor to complete Sections 2, 3 and 4 and submit the form along with your transcript.  Please include a copy of your senior schedule.
  GED scores can be substituted in place of a high school transcript.  Home-schooled and independent study students should submit a notarized transcript detailing the content of the curriculum and the duration of each subject.

• Send ACT/SAT Test Scores
  You must also submit your ACT or SAT test scores.  NKU will accept these scores from the test agency, or on your official high school transcript.

What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?
The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.  The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Verbal, Mathematics, and a required Writing Test. Mathematics makes up 50% of SAT's test score and only 25% of ACT's test score. 

• NKU may require students with two or more deficiencies to supply an essay, letters of recommendation and an activities portfolio before an admission decision can be rendered.  You will be contacted by the Office of Admissions if these materials are required for your application.

Once all credentials are received an admission decision will be made to evaluate an applicant's admission status.  The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the applicant's preparation for college-level coursework.  Admission Standards

Checking Your Status

Once you have applied for admission you can check the status of your application at online any time.  Currently,  you are unable to view the status of your application if you applied using a paper application.

Check your status

Login using your email and password you chose when creating your admissions application.  Once you have logged into your application, click "Detail."
