Canonical and open source
Canonical has been deeply embedded in the open-source community from the start. We’re always looking for ways to continue our support of software, systems and the developers that create them.
We’re not just here for Ubuntu. In fact, we’re currently involved with the open-source community in loads of different ways. Here’s a few:
Sponsorship
We sponsor a range of conferences, events and groups including:
The Linux Foundation
GNOME Foundation
KDE Community
Solutions Linux Open Source (SLOS)
PyCon
OSCON
Akademy
GUADEC
LinuxCon
Scholarships
Every year we invite a handful of brilliant open sourcers to join us at our Ubuntu Developer Summit.
Projects
Canonical staff are currently working on a number of open-source projects including:
Launchpad
Created for Ubuntu and now also used on Zope, Creative Commons and Silva CMS, Launchpad makes open-source collaboration easier than ever. Taking a new approach to free software project management and hosting, Launchpad enables you to have conversations between communities and share any information through a common interface. It’s easy to use and takes minutes to set up.
Bazaar
A distributed version control system (VCS) that is used by the Ubuntu project and thousands of other open source and proprietary development projects. Safe, friendly, free and fast, Bazaar supports Windows, GNU/ Linux and UNIX as well as Mac OS.
Launchpad is a unique collaboration and hosting platform for software projects
