Simon Collison

In September 2006 Colly co-founded Erskine Design, heading up a talented team of designers and developers. His day-to-day role includes all kinds of project management, client liaison, research, planning and (if he’s lucky) design and content management work.

Getting professional about the web in 2002, he has worked on numerous projects for record labels and bands, visual artists and illustrators, businesses, magazines, and community and voluntary sector orgs.

Colly authors a long-running popular blog and has written best-selling books about CSS, XHTML and web standards for publishers Apress and Friends Of ED.

Patrick Lauke

Patrick works as Web Evangelist in the Developer Relations team at Opera Software ASA.

In a previous life he worked as Web Editor for a British university, where in 2003 he single-handedly implemented one of the first web standards based sites in the sector.

Patrick has been engaged in the discourse on standards and accessibility since early 2001 – regularly speaking at conferences and contributing to a variety of web development and accessibility related mailing lists and initiatives such as the Web Standards Project and the Webkrauts.

Published works include a chapter in “Web Accessibility: Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance“, released by Friends of Ed in 2006, as well as various articles for .net magazine, where he sits on the advisory panel.

An outspoken accessibility and standards advocate, Patrick favours a pragmatic hands-on approach over purely theoretical, high-level discussions.

“I’m an idealist by nature, but a pragmatist by trade. I’d never class myself as an expert and I certainly don’t have all the answers…I’m just an opinionated guy eager to find real world solutions ‘where the rubber meets the road’.”

Jake Smith

Jake is a front-end developer and director at JP74, a digital agency he started in 2001 with a colleague, where he bridges the gap between designers and coders.

He’s usually found working on projects for the likes of D&AD and GDR Creative Intelligence, amongst others, fretting over mark-up and getting overly excited with CSS.

Interested in practically anything with a plug, video games of all ages are a large influence on his interaction and interface design. Together with an interest in languages (spoken, not computer) and culture, they aid his day to day aim of better communication.
