Our Teachers

  1. Aminudin Abd Majid

    Ustadh Aminudin Abd Majid has resided in Australia for the past 16 years. Born and raised in Singapore, he relocated to Sydney in 1997 to pursue undergraduate studies after having served two and a half years in the Police Force. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media studies from Macquarie University in 2000. He embarked on a journey to study Arabic and seek traditional Islamic knowledge in 2004 to Amman, Jordan where he lived for the following two years. Upon completing the entire classical Arabic program at Qasid Institute he furthered his studies under the tutelage of Sheikh Ali Hani as well as attending other lessons in Jordan. During his time there, he also benefitted from the teachings of Sheikh Nuh Keller, Sheikh Ashraf Muneeb, Sheikh Ahmad Snobar, Sheikh Sohail Hanif, Sheikh Amienoellah Abderoef, Sheikh Salah al-Kurdi and Ustadh Khaled Abu Amsha. Upon his return to Australia in 2006, Ustadh Aminudin was asked to teach year-long Arabic programs at two Islamic institutions in Sydney, where he taught the entire al-Ajrumiyyah text. He currently works as a parole officer in a maximum-security prison and resides with his wife and three children in Sydney.
  2. Anas Haider

    Ustadh Anas Haider studied with sheikhs in Damascus since 1995. He also completed his undergraduate in Arabic and Shariah law studies at the University of Damascus. He then taught Arabic at two different institutions for a full year. After spending time in Dubai to further studies in IT and graphic design in which he received his certification, he moved to the Gulf area specializing in Graphic Design in 2000. During time spent in the Gulf, he discovered his passion of teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. In 2008-2009 he completed a course in teaching Arabic to non-Arabs to become a master in the field. In 2010, he moved to Amman to further his Arabic studies. Since then, he has specialized in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.
  3. Ashraf Muneeb

    Dr. Ashraf formally began his Shari’a studies in Damascus in 1997, and graduated with honors from the Mahad al-Fath in 2003, as well as privately studied several books in methodology & Hanafi fiqh with Shaykh Hassan al-Hindi; Hanafi fiqh, hadith and hadith sciences with Shaykh Adnan Darwish; Hanafi fiqh with Shaykh Abdul Rahman Arjan; tenets of faith with Shaykh Mustafa al-Turkmani; hadith with Dr. Nureddin al-’Itr; and hadith sciences with Shaykh Bassam al-Hamzawi. Later in Amman, he completed studying inheritance law with Shaykh Ali Hani.
  4. Ateeka Mogalia

    Ustadha Ateeka was born and raised in Reunion Island. Ateeka Mogalia graduated from the Dar ul Uloom Mu'eenul Islam in South Africa where she studied Arabic, Hanafi fiqh, hadith and tafseer. After having taught in local Islamic schools in Reunion Island she moved to Tarim where she had the opportunity to further her studies while also been honored to serve as a teacher at Dar al Zahra under the guidance of Ustadha Zaynab. She is currently living in Jordan with her family and continuing her studies.
  5. Dler al-Barzingi

    Dler Ali al-Barzingi is a teacher of the Quran whose noble lineage extends back to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and give him peace. He began his Quran studies in Baghdad, where he received an ijaza. He then completed his studies in its ten canonical readings in Amman with ijaza, where was licensed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to teach Quranic recitation to an advanced level. Shaykh Dler hosts the Qur’an/Tajweed program, Read the Book of Allah, on the Baghdad TV Channel. It can be viewed live on the website, Baghdad Channel. The program is broadcast every Monday and Thursday at 5pm Baghdad/Amman time. This program is to help viewers recite the Qur’an correctly. Anyone around the world can call in and have their recitation corrected, including English speakers. He has experience teaching tajwid and Quranic memorization in both Baghdad and Amman to people of all ages, from children to adults and all backgrounds: Arabs and non-Arabs. He currently teaches the tajwid and conversational Arabic courses at Qibla. He lives with his wife, son, and daughter in Amman, Jordan.
  6. Farid Dingle

    Ustadh Farid's study of Arabic at the hands of traditional scholars, his background in learning multiple languages, and his teaching experience have made him a very knowledgeable teacher of Arabic. Though Arabic is not his native language, he has spent long hours going through the pains of learning the language himself. He also has an interest in languages in general, giving him a unique insight into the mind of an English-speaker and the most effective ways of teaching a second language. Ustadh Farid grew up in a convert family in the green fields of Herefordshire, England. After some preliminary self studies in Arabic, he moved to Amman to join the Qibla team as a tutor for the Miftah courses in introductory Arabic grammar. Following years of more intensive Arabic study, Ustadh Farid is now a full-time instructor teaching courses in both the Miftah and Sibawayh curricula. Concurrently, he also regularly attends classes in Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir, and Tajweed, Nawh, Sarf and Balagha.
  7. Hatim Yousef

    Ustadh Hatim began learning Tajweed in Dubai at the age of 12. With the encouragement of his teacher and supportive parents, at age 14 Ustadh Hatim began teaching adults in his neighborhood mosque and continued for the next five years.

 Ustadh Hatim left Dubai to pursue his BA and Masters degree in English Literature in Amman, Jordan.

 While in Jordan, he met Shaykh Hussein Abu Laban and attained his first 'ijaza in recitation. He completed his first recitation of the Quran from memory with Shaykh Abdel-Majeed, Imam of As-Salaam Mosque in Sharjah. He then continued with Shaykh Mohammad Esam al-Quda, and completed another recitation of the Quran on the narration of Shu’ba.

 Ustadh Youssef was teaching Quran and Islamic Studies teacher at the ADAMS Center in Sterling Virginia, where he held classes in Tajweed, Tafsir, Seerah, Arabic and Hadith. His teachers include: Shaykh Mohammad Isam Al Quda, Shaykh Hussein Abu Laban, Shaykh Abdel-Majid Al Masri, Shaykh Ahmad Al Jamoos (May Allah have mercy on him) and the famous Islamic singer, Abu Mahmoud Al-Tirmithi, with whom Ustadh Hatim studied the seven tunes (maqams) of recitation. He has also studied Aqidah, Fiqh, and spirituality under a variety of scholars including Shaykh Khaldoon Makhlota, Shaykh Amjad Rashid, Shaykh Ahmad Hasanat and Shaykh Nuh Keller.
  8. Hedaya Hartford

    Ustadha Hedaya Hartford is known for her Sharia expertise on women's issues regarding the fiqh of menstruation, lochia, marriage, divorce, and modern social issues. Born and raised in California, she holds a Bachelors of Arts in Arabic and Islamic History & Culture from the University of California, Berkeley. She converted to Islam in 1981. In Egypt, Ustadha Hedaya studied for many years with Azhari scholars. She completed the second year of Shariah at al-Azhar; studied Hanafi fiqh with Dr. Abdul Aziz Izzat and Shaykh Fahmi Abdullah; and studied Aqida with Shaykh Abdul Aziz Batishti. In Damascus, Syria, she studied several books in Usul & Hanafi fiqh including the Risala al-Birgivi (Imam Birgivi’s manual on menstruation) with Shaykh Hassan al-Hindi; Hanafi fiqh, hadith and hadith sciences with Shaykh Adnan Darwish; Hanafi fiqh including Risala al-Birgivi with Shaykh Abdul Rahman Arjan; and menstruation and related issues according to the Shafi'i madhab with Shaykh Hussein Darwish, Anisa Hanan Da'doosh and Dr. Mustafa Khin. In Amman, Jordan, she studies Hanafi fiqh with Shaykh Ahmad al-Jammal and tafsir with Shaykh Ali Hani. A teacher and translator, Ustadha Hedaya currently lives with her husband Shaykh Ashraf Muneeb in Amman, Jordan. She has written Islamic Marriage; Your Islamic Marriage Contract; a critical edition and commentary of Risala al-Birgivi in Arabic; and Birgivi’s Manual Interpreted: Complete Fiqh of Menstruation & Related Issues in English. Her major areas of interest are fiqh concerning women issues, marriage and divorce; inheritance law; and personal counseling.
  9. Jafar Mulac

    Having himself learned Arabic online, Ustadh Jafar Mulac is especially able to connect with his students who are trying to do the same. Ustadh Jafar Mulac's desire to learn Arabic led him to Qibla, where he has completed all the Arabic courses as a top student. After working as a teaching assistant, and also teaching Arabic locally in Bosnia, he now teaches online in both the Arabic and Tajweed departments. He currently lives in Bosnia.
  10. Maha Al Mousely

    Ustadha Maha was born and raised in Egypt. She studied Shafi fiqh with an Azhari Teacher, Shaikh Mahmoud Faraj, for two years. She then moved to Jordan studied for an ijaza in Qaidat Al Nour from the Furqan center. She studied tajweed in Syria, Egypt and Jordan for her ijaza in the narration of Hafs. She also studied Shafi'i fiqh with Sh. Amjad Rasheed in Jordan as well as other sciences with local Jordanian scholars.

  12. Nuh Keller

    Sheikh Nuh Ha Mim Keller was born in the northwestern United States in 1954. He read philosophy and classical Arabic at the University of Chicago and UCLA, and became Muslim in 1977. He was a disciple in the Shadhili order of the Sufi master and poet Sheikh 'Abd al-Rahman al-Shaghouri of Damascus from 1982 until the latter's death in 2004, and was authorized as a sheikh in the order by Sheikh 'Abd al-Rahman in 1996. He has studied Shafi'i and Hanafi jurisprudence, hadith, and other subjects with traditional scholars in the Middle East, and in the 1980s, under the tutelage of Islamic schoalrs in Syria and Jordan, produced Reliance of the Traveller, the first transaltion of a standard Islamic legal reference in a European language to be certified by al-Azhar, the Muslim world's oldest institution of higher learning. Among his works and translations are Becoming Muslim, Sufism in Islam, al-Maqasid: Imam Nawawi's Manual of Islam, Invocations of the Shadhili Order, Port in a Storm: A Fiqh Solution to the Qibla of North America, an illuminated calligraphic edition of Dala'il al Khayrat, and Sea Without Shore. He has traveled and lectured on Islam extensively, and he writes and teaches in Amman, where he has lived since 1980. (This biography was taken from Sea Without Shore.)
  13. Sadia Khan

    Ustadha Sadia Khan was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a Diploma in Education in 2001 from Macquarie University and is a qualified primary school teacher. Ustadha Sadia has taught in various schools including two private Muslim schools. Ustadha Sadia left Sydney for Amman in early 2004 with her husband and spent the following two years seeking sacred knowledge. She attended Qasid Institute and completed the entire Arabic curriculum after which she continued advanced studies under Sheikh Ali Hani. In addition, she also attended lessons by Sheikh Nuh Keller throughout her stay in Jordan. Her other teachers include Sheikh Sohail Hanif, Sheikh Ahmad Snobar, Sheikh Amienoellah Abderoef, Ustadh Khaled Abu Amsha and Sheikh Salah al-Kurdi. Upon her return to Australia in 2006 she has taught a one-year Arabic program at a local Islamic educational institute along with furthering her Islamic education by taking courses with Qibla. She currently lives in southwest Sydney with her husband and three children.
  14. Samer Jaber

    Ustadh Samer Jaber was born in Kuwait and moved to Jordan in his adolescent years. He completed his undergraduate and masters from the World Islamic Sciences & Education (WISE) University, and is currently working on his doctorate in Quranic exegesis. His studies with Shuyukh include studying Shafii fiqh with Shiekh Ali Hani and he received an ijaza in recitation in the Holy Quran in Hafs Asim from Shaykh Abu Salmaan. He currently resides in Amman, Jordan with his wife and four children.
  15. Sawsan Mostafa

    Ustadha Sawsan Mostafa was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. She acquired a BS in Political Science from Cairo University and is currently living in Cairo with her family. She started her Shari'a studies in 2003 at the famous Dar-al Hosary Institue in Cairo and later studied Shafi'i fiqh, Tajweed and other Islamic sciences with Shaykhs is Egypt and Jordan. Ustadha Sawsan received her Ijaza in Tajweed in the narration of Hafs 'an 'Asim with Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael. She's currently focusing on studying Arabic Grammar, Balagha (Eloquence), Arabic writing, Qur’anic recitations and Shafi’i Fiqh with Shaykhs in Egypt and Jordan, in addition to being a student at the High Institute of Islamic Studies and Sufi Sciences in Cairo.
  16. Shan El Adly

    Ustadha Shan El Adly has many years of experience teaching in both the Middle East and the United States. She received an ijaza in Quran from Shaykh Salah al-Kurdi and has also studied various works in ShafiÕi fiqh, grammar, and usul with scholars in Jordan. Ustadha Shan has taught tajweed, shafiÕi fiqh, and science at Al Waha Islamic School in Cairo and at a pre-Alimah summer program in Washington state, before returning to Amman with her husband and three kids to teach tajwid and Arabic courses at Qibla.
  17. Shazia Ahmad

    Ustadha Shazia Ahmad was born and raised in Canada. She holds a bachelors of arts in Arabic and French from the University of Toronto and a Masters in Arabic from the University of Texas at Austin, where she wrote her thesis in Balagha in the Quran with Dr. Peter Abboud and Dr. Mohammed Mohammed. She also taught Arabic at the university under the supervision of Dr. Abboud. Before her masters, she completed the Arabic program for non-native speakers at the University of Damascus in 2001, where she also was part of high-level Arabic program between the University of Damascus and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) London. In addition to her Arabic studies, she studied fiqh with Shaykh Shaykh Hussein al-Darwish and Aqida with Sheikh Jihad Brown. She received her ijaza in tajweed from Ustadha Hunada Sukkar, the daughter of the grand Sheikh of tajweed Muhammad Sukkar. She continued her studies of fiqh, aqida, usul, and other Islamic sciences in Amman, Jordan with Sheikh Akram Adbal Wahhab, Sheikh Ali Hani, Ustadha Hedaya Hartford, Ustadha Besa Krasniqi and Shaykh Hamza Karamali. She currently resides in Amman, Jordan with her husband and three children.

  19. Zyad Hossen

    Zyad Hossen was born and raised in Reunion Island. He moved to Europe studying in Paris and in the UK where he graduated with honors from the Buckinghamshire business school. He started his traditional Islamic studies in Tarim learning the Arabic language at the Badr institute. Zyad had also the opportunity to learn from various Islamic sciences including Hanafi Fiqh, Inheritance, Tajweed, teachers in South Africa and Jordan. He was blessed to benefit from teachers including al-Habib Kazim al-Saqqaf, al Habib Hashim bin ibrahim, Shaykh Umar Husain al-Khatib, Shaykh Ali Hani, late Mufti Sulaiman Cassim, Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Ofa, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani, Mawlana Yaqub Patel, Shaykh Faiz Qureshi.
