The admission process at Tulane Law School depends on a full review of each application. For applicants to the JD program, this means that in addition to looking closely at the standard predictors of success in law school – the LSAT score and undergraduate academic record – Tulane gives significant weight to each candidate’s personal statement, letters of recommendation and previous accomplishments. Similarly, for applicants to the LLM and SJD programs, this means that the law school record is very important, along with each applicant's personal statement and letters of recommendation written on the applicant's behalf and, for international candidates, evidence of facility with the English language.

While the admission and financial aid processes are separate, they do proceed in parallel. For that reason, applicants should not wait for an admission decision before applying for financial aid, but should begin both processes at the same time.

Character & Fitness
All applicants to law school should be aware that in order to practice law, it is necessary to be admitted to a state bar after graduating from law school. Each state bar has character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission. Applicants are advised to research the requirements of the state(s) in which they hope to practice.

Recruiting Events

Partnerships With Teach for America and Teach for China
Tulane Law School is pleased to partner with Teach for America and Teach for China in the following ways:

(1) Waiver of Application Fee for Current Corps Members - The Law School will grant a waiver of the application fee to any current corps member of Teach for America or Teach for China.  Corps members should contact the Office of Admission at admissions@law.tulane.edu and provide proof of status with Teach for America or Teach for China.  The Office of Admission will provide a fee waiver code that can be used when applying on-line.

(2) Two-Year Deferral - Upon request from new Teach for America or Teach for China corps members, the Law School will offer a two-year deferral to enable admitted students to begin a two-year commitment to Teach for America or Teach for China in the year in which law study was to have commenced.  The Law School will also grant a two-year deferral to exiting corps memberes who wish to pursue other endeavors before attending law school, provided they apply for the deferral while they are still corps members.

(3) Scholarship - Tulane Law School will award a $10,500 scholarship to each Teach for America or Teach for China alumnus accepted into the Law School.  One sixth of the award will be credited to the student's tuition bill at the beginning of each of the six semesters of enrollment at Tulane Law School, so long as the student remains in good standing.  This will represent the minimum Tulane Law School scholarship awarded to each alumnus of Teach for America or Teach for China.  As is the case for all applicants to Tulane Law School, Teach for America and Teach for China alumni will receive full consideration for all other merit-based scholarships available.
