Using the Match name exactly checkbox.

Normally, the system will find all surnames which begin with the letters specified.

Thus, if you put John in the surname box, you will get all the Johnsons as well as the few people whose surname is actually John.

If you are confident that you know the exact surname, check the Match name exactly checkbox. The system will only return entries which match the surname you specify exactly.

If you check the Match like-sounding names. checkbox, you should usually check the Match name exactly checkbox as well. If you do not, the system will search for surnames which begin with something which sounds like what you specify.
