‘Pinocchio. Storia di un burattino’ is a performance that combines literature, theatre, dance and music, and aims to represent and enhance the value of the ‘made in Italy’, starting from the most celebrated Italian ‘piece of wood’; through the story of the timeless work of a wood carver that teaches beauty and truth.

On Saturday, March 16, 2013, the American Swedish Historical Museum will celebrate Waffle Day with some freshly baked Swedish waffles served with whipped cream, strawberry jam and, of course, coffee. 

Dr. Helen Caldicott will autograph her recently published book, Loving This Planet. Dr. Helen Caldicott has electrified audiences worldwide with her call to reduce nuclear weapons, including when she spoke at the CFPA's founding Conference in 1980. This event is free. RSVP requested.

Join Justice O’Connor for an insider’s look at her experiences, as she shares fascinating stories about one of our country’s most important institutions.

Are your aware of what is happening in human rights education? What are your colleagues around the world teaching and doing about human rights? How can you be involved in human rights education to help make the world a better place? This one day conference is for teachers, future teachers, administrators and NGOs for a global dialogue on the importance of human rights education to help achieve the better world we all want.

The National Resource Centers at the University of Pennsylvania will host a panel entitled Migrating Wives: Negotiating Identities in a New Land, which will be hosted at International House Philadelphia. A panel discussion will focus on the changing patterns of immigrant wives’ experiences. Panelists will explore topics such as arranged marriages, polygamy, and the “mail-order bride” industry. The panel will be preceded by a reception.

Featuring the trio of Swedish folk musicians Emilia Amper (Nyckelharpa), Anna Roussel (Wooden Flute) and Jonas Bleckman (Cello), Skaran plays Swedish traditional tunes and their own compositions bursting with attitude and joy. Presented by the American Swedish Historical Museum, this explosive trio charms audiences from all over the world with their fascinating instruments, contagious groove and energetic presence. Mary Robinson, the seventh, and first woman, President of Ireland and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, will join the Council on International Women's Day 2013 to share highlights of her path to prominence, as well as her vision for the world, about which she writes in her soon-to-be published memoir, Everybody Matters: My Life Giving Voice.
