About Pigeon Town

Pigeon Town is an online magazine featuring articles, reviews, rants and *other non-fiction.  Nothing is off-topic. Pigeon Town also has a quarterly feature of poetry, fiction, and spoken-word. For information on how to submit, please see the “submit” page.

Beginning in 2007 as the online literary magazine Truth Sauce, Pigeon Town has evolved into a online magazine of creative nonfiction  and photography. We accept nonfiction  submissions of any type and encourage experimentalism. We don’t seek to publish mere articles and opinions – we look for that which engages the reader with a sense of deep authorial intent. We like work that has a formidable voice and presents real-world topics with voracity. Pigeon Town’s goal is to compile the work of creative-writers thinking and expounding in a nonfictional way.

* we say ‘nonfiction’: that’s what we mean. We don’t mean anything else. This does not mean your submission is required to be in paragraph format or should  have a decisive narrative, or a clear moral. We are blurring the lines between nonfiction and poetry, or nonfiction and prose.

Assistant editor Tom Fitzgerald elaborates:

I’m not really looking for any particular theme or style.  I’m also not looking for any particular ideology.  While working at an elementary school for 8 years I read pieces by 8-year-old kids that blew me away—something in their honesty was refreshing and beautiful.  Then I read a poem like “Haley’s Comet” by Stanley Kunitz and I have the same feeling.  All I can ask for is your best.

Editor Tom Laverty adds:

The problem with writing is that it’s not like riding a bike, you have to keep doing it. You have to keep falling off and getting scraped up. That’s it. It’s also the solution to writing – just keep doing it.

In the end there is only what you send us.

do good work,

The editors
