Catch And Release
What did the great poet Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner say? ”If you love somebody, set them free.” Well, 2010 you’ve been an absolutely lovely year, but it’s time for me to let you go. But 2010, since I’ve got you here by the fire and we’re sipping “Dis, Vin Secret” Champagne from Francoise Bedel and Jim Sullivan’s gentle voice is cooing on the turntable, let me at least pay you a few compliments before I call you a cab and send you home.
First off, there was some fantastic music (in no particular order) Gonjasufi – A Sufi And A Killer, Moondoggies – Tidelands, Ted Lucas – The Om Record, Woods – At Echo Lake, Bob Desper – New Sounds, Damien Jurado – Saint Bartlett, Jim Sullivan – U.F.O., Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest, Avi Buffalo – S/T & Neil Young – Le Noise.
We had some fantastic times – Tom Petty at The Gorge (i.e Chinook Summer), Neil Young at the Schnitzer, the packed out Dolorean Holiday Bazaar, Bob Desper’s album release show, a collaboration with Alec Soth, new friends and crazy work at Mutt, lots and lots of new babies (too many to list) & discovering the best jeans ever made.
And even though The Unfazed isn’t out until January, there has already been loads of awesome press. Thank you! NPR, Filter Magazine, Filter Magazine again, The Oregonian, Willamette Week, The Portland Mercury, The Pittsburgh Tribune, Performer Magazine, Kentucky Seven, Stereo Subversion & Capt. Obvious.
So 2011… We’re ready for you. In fact more than a few folks have predicted that 2011 will be an incredible year for Dolorean… I can’t say that I don’t have the same feeling.
“I got a lead on a long shot colt. He’s got speed and he’s just been broke. Take the money that I set aside. Walk up to the counter honey it’s post time. If we catch a break we know what we’ll do. It’s our chance to take. We got nothing to lose.” (from “The Unfazed”)

NPR Song of the Day – Country Clutter
NPR posted a new track from The Unfazed called “Country Clutter.” The gorgeous voice that sings lead with me on this song belongs to Mara Lee Miller from Denton, Texas. Her band, Bosque Brown, is one of my favorites and I’m extremely grateful for Mara’s contribution to The Unfazed. She took a song that could have been a one-sided gloom-fest and offers the perfect dose of tension and beauty. Without her soft, wounded cooing this song could have easily landed too far in the shadows.
