Zetta.net Rolls out DataProtect for NetApp

By Charles Weaver on December 6th, 2012

Zetta.net today announced channel availability of Zetta.net DataProtect™ for NetApp, a 3-in-1 offsite backup solution that delivers cloud-based offsite backup, disaster recovery and archiving for environments that use NetApp storage solutions. Because Zetta.net DataProtect does not require tapes, third-party software or a second set of NetApp storage systems, it is a low-cost, highly efficient cloud-based offsite backup solution that can be deployed and operational in less than 30 minutes. Zetta.net is making the solution initially available through channel partners only.

“Zetta delivers an affordable enterprise-grade offsite backup and disaster recovery solution for organizations that don’t have budgets and resources for redundant NetApp storage systems, SnapMirror software, or another datacenter,” said Gary Sevounts, vice president of marketing, Zetta.net. “For organizations that rely today on tape and expensive backup software, Zetta helps to significantly reduce the cost and complexity, while improving RPO and RTO.”

Since the new solution does not require the procurement or implementation of additional hardware or third-party software, Zetta.net DataProtect for NetApp is available to any reseller or MSP interested in offering affordable enterprise-grade offsite backup and disaster recovery to NetApp end-users.

“Zetta.net is providing its channel partners with a simple and affordable NetApp backup option, compared to costly hardware-based technologies that require duplicate hardware,” said Deni Connor, principal analyst, Storage Strategies NOW. “Zetta.net removes the need for additional iron with lean, high-performance software, coupled with its Smart Cloud, offering enterprise-class backup without the high price tag. DataProtect for NetApp is a sleek solution for VARs and MSPs that promises to win more deals against comparable hardware-based alternatives.”

Zetta.net DataProtect for NetApp integrates backup, replication and recovery software, enterprise-grade online storage and WAN traffic optimization to achieve a comprehensive data protection solution.

Key features of the new Zetta.net DataProtect for NetApp include:

  • Open Replication – enabling the browsing of backup files and folders in the cloud prior to recovery, enabling more granular and faster restores.
  • Flexible Recovery – flexibility to recover backup data to other servers, instead of having to restore data to another NetApp system.
  • Incremental forever backups after the initial full backup, Zetta detects incremental changes in your data, and applies them to the existing offsite backup copy, bringing it current.

The product removes NDMP inefficiencies and supports UNIX and NTFS ACLs and LUN backups and restores. Installation requires a simple download and deployment of the lightweight ZettaMirror™ software on a gateway server. Once installed, customers simply map the ZettaMirror client to the NetApp filer, selecting the data to be backed up.
