GameCore: A Girl Named Midna

Focused solely on the imp herself, this editorial simultaneously praises and explores Midna’s role in Twilight Princess.

Wired: You’ll Get Stuck on 3DS Game Paper Mario Sticker Star

“The slower pace of a role-playing game has also resulted in the sort of writing and characterization I associate more with Zelda than with Mario games. Your helper in the game reminded me a lot of a less mischievous Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.”

Zelda Dungeon: Flute Boy’s Meadow — Companion Themes Part 2

“Of all of Link’s companions, Midna is one of the most adored among fans… her back story and maturation as a character throughout Twilight Princess are well executed.”

N-Europe: Top 50 Wii Games

“Midna was probably one of my favorite characters from a Zelda game.”

The Border House: Characters Done Right — Midna

“Midna is so important that she’s the game’s namesake, the Twilight Princess; the game is about her, and she’s definitely worthy of the spotlight. Three years ago I predicted that Midna is going to become the descendent of Beyond Good and Evil’s protagonist Jade as an iconic feminist videogame hero.  I don’t know how widely recognized she is as a feminist figure, but there is a huge fan following of Midna demanding her inclusion in future games.  I hope to see her again.”

Official Nintendo Magazine: The Best Supporting Characters in Video Games

“Having her along the way made Twilight Princess seem a much more rewarding experience and it would be awesome to get a little spin-off title with Midna as the main protagonist.”

Official Nintendo Magazine: Smash Bros. 3DS – 5 Characters that Should Fight

“Even though these are technically two different characters, I think it would still work really well, much like the Ice Climbers. You could have speedy and basic attacks from Wolf Link, but then maybe some super special attacks using Midna’s mysterious powers. There are definitely a lot of brilliant opportunities there – just think how awesome their Final Smash could be!”

Golgotron: Ocarina of Time is Not the 3DS Zelda We Deserve

“The Legend of Midna could be a fresh look for a tiring DS game engine while adding depth to the end game scenario from Twilight Princess, but that is a different story.”

Computer and Video Games: 25 Most Heartbreaking Moments in Nintendo History

“Who could fail to be touched by Midna’s restoration from irksome imp to her rightful place as the true Twilight Princess? Nintendo’s storytellers don’t always get the credit they deserve, but Midna’s redemption story is worth two John Marston deaths, or seven Niko Bellic internal monologues, or nine million Gears Of War introspections.”

Zelda Dungeon: Z-Talk Podcast #18

Here, one of the commentators lists her five favorite characters in Twilight Princess. Guess who landed the number one spot?

The Escapist: Extra Punctuation’s Skyward Sword Review

“The support character, Midna, actually had an interesting arc. I could only think of her with soppy nostalgia as I barely tolerated the monotone creepy-eyed dullard that follows you around in Skyward Sword, endlessly popping out to remind me that my health was critically low.”

The Daily Collegian: Skyward Sword Dominates the Wii

“Fi [is] a serious step backwards from Midna of Twilight Princess.”

Den of Geek: The 10 Most Memorable Characters in the Zelda Series

“Midna made her debut in Twilight Princess, and is inarguably the most memorable character in that game, and one of the most well-rounded in the series as a whole… She doesn’t appear in Skyward Sword (unless it’s in a tiny cameo we’ve somehow missed), but considering she’s one of the most well-received characters in the series’ recent history, it’s surely just a matter of time before she returns. Maybe she could get even her own spin-off title – Tingle got one, after all.

MCV: Interview with Zelda Williams

“I loved Midna [from Twilight Princess]. I liked her in her little cute form, but I do like the moment where she becomes her proper form and it turns out she obviously has the hots for Link. And it becomes this thing that was very entertainment to me, it became like Soap Opera Legend of Zelda. She was like “Oh I am so attractive you can’t even say anything?” And you are like, well Link has always been mute Midna, but thank you for that.

I also loved a lot of the cut scenes in Majora’s Mask as well, because they were quite dark and twisted. A lot of the appearances of the moon in the sky as it would grow closer. I really liked how they played that out. Otherwise, Midna was my favourite. Her dramatic moments were very funny, I liked her sense of humour and the way they wrote her.”

G4TV: Skyward Sword Review

“[Fi] doesn’t offend, but she certainly lacks the charm of Midna, a bright spot in Twilight Princess.”

Zelda Informer: That Romantic Spark

“[Midna] is one of the series’ most loved characters, and by far the most liked of Link’s companions by the Zelda fanbase.”

Screen Team: Top 12 Zelda Characters To Celebrate 25 Years of Zelda

“Midna is a sassy imp-like chick who happily takes the saddle when Link is cursed and turned into a werewolf during Twilight Princess. She’s actually one of Zelda’s more interesting and personable characters, with some ambiguous morality choices, a proper character arc and a twist-filled back story.”

Toy-TMA: My Ten Favorite Zelda Characters

“Midna has tons of special powers, a lot of sass to hold her own in any instance, and of course when you see her real body you see that sometimes it’s good to be the Hero of Legend every now and then. Midna’s so popular that there’s a group called Want Midna Back (WMB) that’s dedicated to bringing her into another Zelda game.”

GameRant: Top 10 ‘Legend of Zelda’ Music Themes

The story of Twilight Princess seemed to be more focused than the story in Ocarina of Time. Whether that’s good or bad is subjective, but one thing that is almost universally agreed on is the depth of the true central character of the game: Midna.

Diehard GameFAN: Hall of Fame Nomination: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Twilight Princess was nominated for Diehard GameFAN’s Hall of Fame for the week of September 20, 2010. One of the editors of the article refers to Midna as one of his favourite characters ever by Nintendo. Twilight Princess, however, was rejected.

This article calls Midna the best sidekick in LoZ in a decade.

UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine: Leading Ladies

The results of a poll place Midna as the fifth-best female video game character of all time, just behind Nintendo’s Samus, Peach and Zelda, and Okami’s Amaterasu.

The Tanooki: Midna Spotted at the Hyatt Regency Hotel

Just a paragraph, but it links to us, so we thought we’d return the favour. Once again, an affirmation that Midna has one of the biggest character fanbases of any Zelda character.

IGN: Save Midna

An article written on IGN in the honour of the Midna Fan Forum, who, as WMB was just starting up, had just as much fervour as we do. A few jabs at the idealism of the movement are there, but it’s clear both by this articles and others on the site that IGN loves Midna. It should also be noted that Midna is in second place behind Link in the poll there for a favourite character (roughly twenty percent).

Nintendo Power report

Nintendo Power calls Midna the “Best Supporting Character” of the Zelda series.

GameDaily: Twilight Princess Review

“Midna is a likable character, one of the better ones to be introduced to the Nintendo universe in quite some time.”

MundoRare: Twilight Princess Review

“Twilight Princess offers one of the greatest narrations in the series. Dialogues and cutscene animations are also above the norm. And the character of Midna itself is so powerful and fascinating that she deserves an animated film all for herself.”

GameSpy: Twilight Princess Review

“There are many memorable characters in the game, but easily the best of these is the spooky little imp-like individual, Midna. Her story is a mystery initially, but she proves to be an invaluable helper and hint-giver throughout the game, making for a new dynamic over and beyond the previous games in the series.”

Nintendo World Report: Twilight Princess Review

This review briefly compares Midna to Navi, saying that she is similar but with a genuine personality and moral sensibility, and a notable lack of “HEY, LISTEN”.
