JSConf US 2010 is sponsoring a drive to raise funds for outreach programs to increase diversity in the computer programming and engineering industry. We believe that encouraging diversity in technology is not just a good idea; it is the most important thing that we can do.
The funds raised from this drive, along with any residual funds from JSConf itself, will be donated to a variety of outreach-focused, diversity improvement programs including: CEED at Virginia Tech, Outreach Roadshow at Carnegie Mellon, and Artemis at Brown University. Our focus is on outreach programs, because studies have shown that early experience in computer programming is essential to stemming attrition rates, especially among women, in CS programs at the university level. If you have a suggestion of a meaningful diversity outreach program, please let us know as well.
The donations will be made shortly after JSConf US has completed and will be made on behalf of the entire JavaScript community. Please help us with this very important cause.
