Argenis Mendez is the reigning IBF Super-Featherweight Champion of the World.
Mendez began boxing at the age of 13 and his natural ability and grace in the ring kept him ranked #1 in his country at every division he participated in. He won the world amateur championships three consecutive times from 2003 to 2005. He also represented his country in the 2004 Olympic Games. In his 250+ amateur bouts he has defeated a long list of current professional world champions and promising prospects.
Mendez debuted in his home country in 2006 and shot himself up in the rankings to a world title opportunity. He took on Mexican champion Juan Carlos Salgado for the vacant IBF super featherweight championship. Although delivering a stunning performance during an action packed bout, Mendez lost the decision in front of Salgado’s hometown crowd. Mendez clawed back up the rankings and earned a rematch on 3/9/13. This time he made quick work of Salgado, flooring him in the first and delivering a devastating knockout in the fourth, to capture the IBF Super-Featherweight Championship of the World.
