For in-browser-Apps it would be great to compile Silverlight to HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. So you'll reach many plattforms and the server-Side can stay the same.

This is only available as a Silverlight binary, which makes it very hard to use RIA properly on the desktop with either WPF or the app style formerly known as metro. If you open source the code from -System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client -System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.ApplicationServices then people can sort out the performance performance issues and use RIA from any .NET platform, without any commitment or effort from Microsoft.

All this does is drain battery and heat up the MacBook for no good reason. I'm sure Intel's integrated graphics are adequate for what Silverlight would be used for in web browsers on my Mac.

The MediaElement.SetSource() method is only available in Silverlight platform, not in WPF. But in WPF apps, we need to play video from memory stream, and there is no good workaround to do it. Please... If it exists on Silverlight, its just put on WPF...

The fastest way to encourage adoption is to get Silverlight on as many platforms as possible -- Windows Mobile, iPhone, Mac (all flavors), Linux, Android, Windows Embedded, MCML, and so forth. The more platforms, the better.

In addition to being able to print and offer basic reporting, Line of Business apps need to easily be able to output to Excel, PDF, XPS. If I show a data grid with Sales Data to a VP at my company, they are going to want that data in Excel in one click.

My point being that the gif is alive and well and will not go away any time soon.

I have many customers who have huge libraries of gif files and don't feel the need to spend the time ( and money ) to rewrite them all.

I need to display several gifs inside the same canvas/grid/etc.

Yes there are better formats to do animations.

Heck I would even accept an MS utility that converts existing GIF files to a format that Silverlignt/WinRT does natively support.

And yes ImageTools is an exellent SDK package, but still requires coding by the developer to make use of it.

One thought I had was to create a "control" inside a Canvas ( WebBrowser? ) that in turn allow the host browser to do the image rendering ( since most browsers do render gifs) or some similar call to the host browser.

In my specific requirement, the gifs are guaranteed to be frame-by-frame animations, much like an avi file.
The serving WebService could do the conversion, but to what animation format?

The Silverlight TimeZoneInfo only supports UTC and Client local timezones. Creating a world aware application which supports multiple timezones and can convert between events in different timezones is difficult without the full implementation of TimeZoneInfo.

If they are homogeneous they work fine. It is throwing exception when using with combination of Grouping, Collapsing and Scrolling and binded with PagedViewCollection.
