What is Vufind?

Welcome to the new interface to the DC Public Library catalog, which gives you access to over 2.5 million books, journals, audio/video materials, electronic resources, and more from 25 DC libraries.

The new interface combines the basic catalog with some much requested social features, so you can share with your friends and family, provide better feedback, and have a clear voice in the DC Library system!

New tools allow you to e-mail and text records directly, as well as share information, feedback, and comments via Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, Stumbleupon, Digg, MySpace, and other social sites.

How do I see my Holds?

You can view your holds by clicking on "Available Holds" or "Requested Holds." Available holds are those that are ready to be picked up. Requested holds are those that are not yet ready—each one will move to available holds when it is your turn to check out the item.

Under each item you have checked out, you will see a "Renew" link. Click this link to renew. If you see a message that you cannot renew, it is because: (1) You have reached your renewal limit; or (2) Someone else has requested the item; or (3) You have too many fines and must pay these before you can renew items online.

Can I cancel a Hold?

Click on "Requested Holds" under "My Account". Under each item in the list is a "Cancel Hold" link. Click on this to cancel your hold.

How do I access My Account?

You need a "User ID" and a PIN to access your account. Your library card number, without spaces, is your ID. Your PIN should have been given to you when you registered at your branch. If you have forgotten your PIN, you may have it e-mailed to you if you gave us your e-mail address when you signed up for your library card. Otherwise, you must go to a library branch to get a new one. PIN numbers cannot be provided over the phone. This security measure protects your account. Please bring a photo ID so we can verify your identity.
