CASSINI RPWS:
RADIO AND PLASMA WAVE SCIENCE
Cassini-Huygens, a joint U.S.-European mission to Saturn and its moon Titan, was
launched October 15, 1997, flew past the planets Venus, Earth, and
Jupiter, and entered Saturn orbit July 1, 2004. One of the major
scientific instruments aboard is RPWS which is gathering data for the
Radio and Plasma Wave Science investigation. The RPWS team Principal
Investigator is
Professor Donald Gurnett of
The University of Iowa
Department of Physics and
Astronomy, where much of the flight hardware and software was
developed.
