Reds up to sixth
Liverpool have moved above local rivals Everton following an impressive come-from-behind victory over in form Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The Reds took the lead on 21 minutes when neat built up play from Philippe Coutinho and Jose Enrique provided Luis Suarez with his twenty-eighth goal of the season, though Spurs levelled through defender Jan Vertonghen on the stroke of half time.
The Belgian grabbed a second eight minutes after the break to give Spurs a 2-1 lead, though a poor backpass from Kyle Walker gifted Stewart Downing an equaliser with just over twenty minutes left to play.
Steven Gerrard then fired the winner from the penalty spot after Benoit Assou-Ekotto then fouled Suarez in the box on 82 minutes, moving Liverpool to within two points of fifth place Arsenal, and seven behind the Champions League places.
After the game, skipper Gerrard declared that Suarez would “be the best player to have not won an award” should he not be crowned PFA or Football Writers Player of the Year.
The Uruguayan is currently second favourite with the bookmakers, behind Spurs’ Gareth Bale.
Elsewhere, the club have been linked with a move for Valencia’s defensive midfielder Sofiane Feghouli.
The Mirror report that the Reds scouts have been watching the 23 year old, who has 8 caps for Algeria.
