Help organise and shape CityCamp Manchester 2011! CityCamp is a participatory event about identifying opportunities for local action and community engagement in Manchester. We're looking to support and develop a range of projects from urban agriculture, to sustainable living, to the use of open data and more....

CityCamp Manchester is a two-day event, which will take place in September 2011.

We're using social media to define and facilitate the event, and we invite you to contribute to the agenda.

The umbrella theme for CityCamp Manchester is 'Resourcing Manchester'

Themes so far include:

  • Food
  • Mobilities
  • Time
  • Waste

Many more themes (and ideas within themes) are emerging from our launch event in June 2011 - see launch event ideas

Please continue to suggest ideas for each theme, or contribute thoughts for workshops and/or activities within each theme. (Please edit this wiki, or get in touch)

We're looking for ideas for workshops, themes and speakers for our September event. Also, if you know of any people and community groups who should be involved, please let us know or put us in touch!

More about CityCamp

So far, there have been 8 City Camps in 4 countries. Each is its own event, run in its own way. Originating from the BarCamp movement - see more on City Camp here.

The four main goals of City Camp are to:

  1. Bring together local government officials, municipal employees, experts, programmers, designers, citizens and journalists to share perspectives and insights about the cities in which they live
  2. Create and maintain patterns for using the Web to facilitate local government transparency and effective local governance
  3. Foster communities of practice and advocacy on the role of the Web, mobile communication, online information, and open data in cities
  4. Create outcomes that participants will act upon after the event is over
