Open source software utility converts files into pdf fomat |
Jul. 20, 2004
An open source software utility that provides a way to convert files into Adobe PDF (portable document format) is now available for download. The software, which has achieved a stable release, is useful for quickly converting plain text files or .DBF database records to PDF format, providing a read-only, cross-platform way to view and print data, according to project leader Vasudev Ram. Support for additional source file formats is planned in future releases.
Ram says xtopdf has no OS-dependent code, and should work on any platform where Python runs, including Linux, Unix, and Windows. It requires Python 2.2 or higher, as well as the open source version of the ReportLab toolkit, which is also written in Python.
Version of 1.0 of xtopdf is an open source project on SourceForge.
