Welcome to MarshAccess

spacer Funded by a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to Ramapo College of New Jersey, MarshAccess seeks to engage adults with disabilities and/or age-related limitations in science activities based in the Meadowlands marsh. MarshAccess programs are interactive and informative, covering a variety of topics such as the history of the Meadowlands, human impact on the Meadowlands and the nature and importance of the Meadowlands estuary habitat.

spacer Most MarshAccess programs take place at the Meadowlands Environment Center and NJMC Center for Environmental and Scientific Education, which are located at De Korte Park Plaza in Lyndhurst, NJ. MarshAccess programs are designed so they can be modified to fit the needs of people with variety of disabilities while enjoying the center’s fully accessible trails, state-of-the-art science classrooms and technology, and when possible, the telescope in the William D. McDowell Observatory. Classroom and outdoor field work incorporate hands-on activities and assistive technology. Partnerships formed with key organizations serving individuals with disabilities in northern New Jersey have enabled the project team to build on their successes as new programs are modified or created.
