Through various delivery modes, the North Carolina A&T Cooperative Extension Program provides research-based educational programs and information regarding critical issues to individuals, families and communities. Cooperative Extension's educational programs and outreaches also emphasize improving the quality of life for individuals and families without the financial resources and educational backgrounds mainstream America enjoys.

What we do . . .

To accomplish its objectives, the North Carolina A&T State University Cooperative Extension Program utilizes a vast array of delivery methods - ranging from such time-tested methods as on-farm demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, to such cutting-edge information delivery methods as videoconferencing and online computer-assisted training.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension has a Congressional mandate to focus its educational programs and outreaches on individuals and families without the financial resources and educational backgrounds mainstream American enjoys. Current Extension outreaches focus on five major areas:

Sustaining Agriculture and Forestry
Protecting the Environment
Maintaining Viable Communities
Developing Responsible Youth
Developing Strong, Healthy and Safe Families

Several of North Carolina A&T Extension's programs have gained regional, national and international recognition for their success in addressing the critical needs of individuals, families and communities with limited resources.

Who we are . . .

Extension specialists on campus provide training and technical assistance to Extension agents and paraprofessionals working in counties across North Carolina. These county personnel work one-on-one with the families and individuals in the various programs.

Where we came from . . .

Since the First Morrill Act of 1862 authorized the establishment of a land-grant institution in each state to educate citizens in agriculture, home economics, mechanical arts, and other practical professions, land-grant institutions have played an important part in improving the quality of life for millions of Americans.

The 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, like North Carolina A&T State University, were created as a result of the Second Morrill Act of 1890, which expanded the system of land-grant universities to include an historically black institution in those states where segregation denied minorities access to the land-grant institution established in 1862.
