Giving Opportunities
Capital Campaign
Each year, the College of Science receives support from hundreds of alumni, industry partners, charitable foundations, and other friends who recognize the vital role of science education and research in today’s society.
While donations to any department, program, or fund of the College of Science are appreciated and valued, the following initiatives represent the top funding priorities for the college.
Give Now!
Scholarships & Fellowships
Now more than ever, with the economy struggling and tuition rising, our students need assistance with tuition and living expenses to support their educational experience at the U.
ACCESS Program for Women in Science & Mathematics
The ACCESS program was created at the University of Utah in 1991 to address the underrepresentation of women in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). It provides young women a supportive peer group, a solid foundation in science, and immediate exposure to research. ACCESS has been shown to improve retention of young women in college and lead to success in their professional pursuits beyond graduation.
Facilities
The College of Science is currently engaged in two major building initiatives, designed to enhance our teaching and research facilities for students and faculty:
- Crocker Science Center at the George Thomas Building.
A gift of $10 million from Gary and Ann Crocker is making it possible for the College of Science to remodel and earthquake retrofit the historic George Thomas Building on Presidents Circle (the former university library and soon-to-be-former home for the Utah Museum of Natural History).-
Buy a STAR. Be a Star!
Support the amazing Crocker Science Center when you purchase a bronze star--with your name or that of a loved one--for $500. A touching gift for any occasion, or a memorial for someone dear, your star will be on permanent display in the new center.
-
- Thatcher Building for Biological and Biophysical Chemistry.
An $8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health and a multi-million-dollar gift from the family of Lawrence and Helen Thatcher of Salt Lake City are making possible this drive to construct a $20 million expansion of our chemistry facilities.
Endowed Chairs & Professorships
Everything we accomplish at the University starts and ends with having an excellent faculty. Chairs and Professorships, funded at $1 to $2.5 million each, are a very important tool for achieving and maintaining that excellence; retaining exceptional faculty who are recruited elsewhere; and recruiting senior faculty from other institutions.
