The Research Collaboratory for Structural Biology (RCSB) is committed to enabling comprehensive access to macromolecular structure data. This page serves as a portal to software developed at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for that purpose.
OpenMMS Toolkit
The OpenMMS Toolkit contains software for parsing protein and nucleic acid macromolecular structure data stored in the standard mmCIF format. The toolkit also contains software for loading the mmCIF data files into a relational database, for translating the data into an XML formated file, and for running a Corba server to deliver binary MMS data directly over a network connection to applications. The translation into the different formats is driven by a central metamodel based on the ontology contained in the mmCIF dictionary. All of the software for the metamodel and for generating the translated expressions is written in Java and is included with the distributions.
STAR (CIF) Parser
Several object-oriented Perl modules are available for parsing mmCIF files. (These modules are also applicable to other STAR-compliant files, as long as they do not contain nested loops.) Click here to download these parsing modules, together with examples of application scripts and complete documentation.
