[IMN235] Reduced Capacity of Flash Drive

Why is my flash drive showing much smaller capacity than advertised?

When Imation Lock has been used to partition the flash drive into Public and Secure partitions, accidental formatting of the Public partition may erase the Imation Lock application.  The result will be a fixed smaller size of the partition with no apparent way to enter the password and gain access of the Secure partition. The same condition may occur if  Imation Lock is inadvertently deleted.

Recovery is quite simple:

  1. Download the Imation Lock password application for your specific flash drive from the download page for each product:
Atom    Clip    Nano    Pocket     Swivel    Pocket Pro
  2. Copy Imation Lock to the Desktop of your computer or to the Public partition of the flash drive.
  3. Launch Imation Lock by double clicking, enter your password and the Secure partition should be accessible.  Data previously stored in the Secure partition should still be present.
  4.  Imation Lock will function from the Desktop or from the Public partition.  For convenience, it may be desirable to place a copy into the Public partition.
  5. Do not repartition the drive prior to saving the information in the Secure or Public partitions.  Re-partitioning erases all information on the drive.

Note: The forgoing discussion applies only to Windows computer platforms, since Imation Lock is Windows software.  If the drive has been set up in Windows and the Imation Lock has been deleted on a Mac, use the above procedure on a Windows platform and the Secure partition should be recoverable.
