SSSI Workload I/O Capture Program (WIOCP)

Now provided by the SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative and available for download is the Workload I/O Capture Program (WIOCP), a safe and thoroughly tested tool which runs unobtrusively in background to constantly capture a large set of SSD and HDD I/O metrics.

The What/Why/How of the WIOCP:

WHAT is the WIOCP?  A simple tool to capture software applications' I/O operation activity that provides  statistics on workloads at the user level - IOPS, MB/s, response times queue depths, etc.)

WHY should I download and use it?- To find out what kind of traffic your software is generating

The WIOCP has been specifically designed to be safely downloaded and used with corporate PCs.

When you  install the WIOCP software, you will be prompted to enter the drive letters for those drives for which I/O operations metrics are to be collected. No details of your actual workload (for example, files you’ve accessed) is captured.  The data results are offered in very clear and accessible report formats.

HOW CAN THE WIOCP HELP YOU?

  • You can collect and optionally display in real time information reflecting your current environment and operations with the security of a tool delivered with digital authentication for your protection.
  • The collected I/O metrics will provide information you can use to evaluate your current SSD system environment.
  • Statistics will be captured from a wide range of applications, and used with the SSS Performance Test Specification to help you determine what SSD will perform best for you

HOW CAN YOUR SUBMISSION HELP THE SNIA AND SSSI?

  • The WIOCP will provide unique, raw information that can be analyzed by our SNIA Technical Work Groups like the IOTTA TWG to gain insights into workload characteristics, key performance metrics, and insights in SSD design constraints and opportunities.
  • All the collected data will be aggregated and publically available for download and analysis.  No personally identifiable information is collected, and you benefit from this information with no comprises to your privacy or confidentiality.
